Winnipeg summers are so short and full of festivals, it’s strange to spend an evening inside watching a concert. But earlier this week, fans packed the Canada Life Centre to check out Volbeat and their opener Hailstorm. The crowd was ready for a rockin’ evening with the floor being packed right to the stage barrier. With so many fans coming out for both bands, it’s a wonder why there aren’t more big metal shows coming through town.

Halestorm

Fronted by Lzzy Hale and backed by a trio of hard-rockin’ guys, Halestorm hit the stage hard from the get go and didn’t drop the energy throughout their entire set. Their energetic performance was a great way to warm up the crowd for the headliner. Lzzy Hale has some incredible pipes fronting a band this powerful with ease. The band is currently promoting their latest album ‘Back From The Dead’ released in 2022, and for this show they rocked through 11 songs including a monster drum solo by the electric-haired Arejay Hale.

Volbeat

Lit up a bright red, Volbeat hit the stage just after 8:30pm. The arena seats filled out from the sparse crowd of the opener, and the floor was packed with fans ready to rock all night. They kicked things off with ‘The Devil’s Bleeding Crown’ making sure fans knew why they came to the show.  The band powered through 12 songs including a four song encore mixing classic that any Volbeat fan would know with newer songs from their latest album ‘Servant of the Mind’ from 2021.
