2024 Calgary Stampede Roundup

The 2024 Calgary Stampede Roundup is here! This year’s Calgary Stampede proved to be nothing short of a great time for music across all genre spectrums. Historically, the Calgary Stampede has offered free concerts (with a general grounds admission) for all attendees. This year people came out in droves, and the musical acts did not disappoint. Both the Coca Cola Stage and the Big Four Stage had some amazingly talented artists lined up this year. The whole festival was bustling for its 10 day annual run, with a huge attendance record of over 1.3 million people coming down to the grounds to experience the good eats, the sparkling midway, the exhilarating rodeo, and of course the amazing music lineup.

G-Eazy

G-Eazy made his much anticipated Calgary show at Calgary Stampede’s Sneak A Peek night one to remember. Calgary has been waiting a long time for G-Eazy to grace one our stages, especially since his canceled Stampede show in 2018, and he did not disappoint.

He came on stage with loads of energy and the crowd was loving it. Despite his show getting put on hold halfway through due to emergency weather conditions, he still came back to finish up the rest of his set for his fans roughly 2 hours later. An incredible set for one of the greats.

Ocean Alley

Australia’s own Ocean Alley made their Stampede debut to a crowd of fans adorned with Ocean Alley merch, turns out they have a huge fan base here (outside of myself). Their set went absolutely wonderfully with amazing vocals, and wonderful performances from each member of the band.

They played their viral hit single “Confidence”, and it seemed as if everyone in the audience knew every word. Not a bad Stampede debut at all, in fact, quite the opposite.

Dean Lewis

Dean Lewis, another artist coming from Australia, hit the Coca Cola Stage with lots of energy, and even more fans crowded up to the barricades to see him and sing along with every single one of his songs.

He put on a phenomenal show, and was constantly interacting with the audience, whether it was quips during his songs, or throwing multiple guitar picks to the audience. The crowd loved him, and I personally can’t wait for him to come back to Calgary again.

Billy Talent

Billy Talent brought out the CROWD at their Stampede show, thousands of people crammed together to go through their entire discography with them, from their self-titled debut album, Billy Talent, to their most recent release, Crisis of Faith.

Lead singer, Ben, left the audience with some wise words: “Moral, kind, decent, go easy on each other and don’t let us divide one another,” He also had something to say about the Maple Leafs current streak, “Toronto Maple Leafs suck shit right now, I am an angry bitter fan, and you should be too, good luck with the rebuild though, okay?”
Calgary can’t wait to see Billy Talent again, they’ve been coming here for 25 years, and we can’t wait for 25 more.

The Beaches

The Beaches, Canada’s own indie darlings took to the stage with the grounds packed with fans (and lots of signs). They played an unreleased song that they’ve been teasing on TikTok, in addition to their viral hit “Blame Brett”.

They took over the stage with such energy and power, they made it their own, it was as if they had been doing this for their whole lives.

Down With Webster

Down With Webster made their triumphant return to the Calgary Stampede at the Big Four, bringing a taste of mid-2010’s music with them, their intro to the stage was much anticipated from the audience, who were singing along to all of their songs.

In a way it’s strange to see Down With Webster return to Calgary, especially after so many years out of the spotlight, but this show proved that they’re still a force to be reckoned with. Down With Webster is back on the come up.

Peach Pit

“Today we’re Calgarians, just like you guys”, Vancouver’s own Peach Pit took the stage by storm, and the people showed up for them, singing along to all of their songs (myself included). Peach Pit’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, from playing dive bars in Vancouver, to playing the headlining stage at the Calgary Stampede.

They finished off their energetic set with a true Stampede cover, Shania Twain’s “I Feel Like A Woman”, featuring some honky-tonk synth. I hope they come back soon, I know they’ll bring out the crowds for their next show here.

Metric

When Metric came onto the Coca Cola Stage it was almost like time had stopped, you could feel the excitement from the crowd and the energy from the band was palpable. Calgary always shows up for Metric in droves, and their show did not disappoint.

They played their older classics, and songs from their newest album Formentera II much to the enjoyment of their Calgary fans.

Ne-Yo

The Big Four Stage was in for quite a treat with Ne-Yo. The sold out show was absolutely packed with fans. When Ne-Yo came on stage the screams almost broke the sound barrier, the entire crowd was so excited, and Ne-Yo delivered an absolute powerhouse of a show. Starting out with the chart topping song Closer, and diving into other classics that everyone in the audience was singing along to.

Ne-Yo proved that he is still a formidable force in the music industry. His stage presence was nothing short of extraordinary, his dancers and band members were the cherries on top. A phenomenal performance from all.

Bryson Tiller

The crowd for Bryson Tiller was beyond insurmountable, clocking in at a whopping 12,000 people. The rapper from Louisville was a super anticipated act at the Calgary Stampede this year, arguably the most anticipated act based on the amount of people crammed into the crowd. When Bryson came on stage the crowd went absolutely insane, I have never heard so many screams at a Stampede show, it felt like the ground was about to crumble beneath us.

Bryson had an absolutely show stopping performance, filled with some of his most popular songs ranging from his almost 10 year career, definitely a show to remember.
