We Are Story Tellers
SOLD OUT. The words rang true as fans packed into L’Olympia, buzzing with anticipation for a night that promised raw emotion and relentless energy. Metalheads of all kinds, from seasoned veterans to newcomers, filled the venue, ready to witness a lineup that spanned continents and styles.
Hailing from Japan, Jiluka set the tone for the night with their unmistakable visual kei aesthetic. One by one, they emerged, each band member presenting themselves dramatically before launching into their set. Adorned in leather outfits illuminated by red lights, their presence was electrifying. The theatrics weren’t just for show—their performance matched their bold look. The crowd embraced them instantly, feeding off their intricate guitar work and unrelenting intensity.
Next up was Landmvrks, the metalcore powerhouse from France. This was their first concert on the tour, having missed the opener due to visa troubles. But they made up for lost time with sheer force. I had been looking forward to them the most, drawn in by their blend of harsh and clean vocals. The energy was immediate. By the third song, at the band’s request, crowd surfers started flying over the barricade. The entire band moved with uncontainable enthusiasm, two-stepping across the stage and keeping the audience in a constant state of movement. The highlight? A haunting acoustic rendition of Suffocate that silenced the room before roaring back to life with a chorus of voices chanting LANDMVRKS in unison.
Then came the night’s headliner—Imminence. The Swedish metalcore act transformed the stage into a cathedral of sound, complete with massive backdrops resembling stained glass windows that flickered with vibrant lights. But the most stunning sight was frontman Eddie Berg, seamlessly switching between playing the violin and delivering gut-wrenching screams. It was metalcore at its most dynamic, a perfect balance of beauty and brutality.
The sold-out crowd gave them everything. From deafening singalongs to relentless mosh pits and non-stop crowd surfers, Montréal welcomed them with open arms. This wasn’t just another show—it was an experience, a celebration of music that transcended borders and languages.
Montréal, you showed up. And you made this night unforgettable.
