We Are Story Tellers
On a buzzing night in Montreal, Scottish indie rock legends Franz Ferdinand delivered a powerhouse performance to a sold-out crowd at MTELUS, proving once again why they’ve held their place at the top of the alt-rock scene for over two decades. It was the second-to-last stop on their tour, and the energy was absolutely electric from start to finish.
Opening the night was Telescreens, a high-energy punk rock band from New York City. With a sound that effortlessly fused chill, atmospheric grooves with heavier, more aggressive tones, their set was a perfect mashup of contrast and control. Think the raw energy of PUP with a NYC edge. Telescreens didn’t just play—they performed, actively engaging the crowd and even trying to hype up those seated above by urging them to get on their feet. Their charisma was undeniable, and they left a strong impression with their talent, stage presence, and genre-blending set.
Then came Franz Ferdinand, and the crowd erupted. From the moment they stepped on stage, it was clear the band had no intentions of slowing down. With an impressive 20-song set, their performance was packed with fan favorites and deep cuts alike. Frontman Alex Kapranos kept the energy sky-high, delivering one of the most energetic sets MTELUS has seen in recent memory. The signature jump shots were nonstop, and the crowd soaked it all in—dancing, shouting, and singing along.
In a particularly charming moment, Kapranos addressed the Montreal audience in French, drawing roars of appreciation and adding a local touch to an already unforgettable night. As Franz Ferdinand neared the end of their tour, they proved they’re still at the top of their game—and that their connection with fans is as strong as ever.
