Leon Bridges In Vancouver

Leon Bridges In Vancouver had the mo-town gone country artist bringing nothing but the hits to a SOLD OUT Pacific Coliseum. The PNE Summer Night Concerts have been going on for a few days, and with this Saturday performance it felt like new territory. Looking around the Coliseum arena, there were hardly any seats unoccupied. From the first to final moment Vancouver was on their feet grooving to every note. Fans and concertgoers alike were treated to a 20-track filled with hits from all of Bridges’ albums, plus a few infamous tracks from Texas Sun.

Setlist

Leon Bridges was pure 60’s vibes as the R&B star has been known to genre bend since the infancy of his music career. With Grammy nominated Coming Home, we were introduced with that retro-soul, very motown inspired sound. It was an album that had all eyes on him rather immediately. 10 years later, the album’s heavily celebrated and PNE was treated to 9-tracks from the album. Better Man, River, Coming Home, those are just a few of the big timers making the list. With Good Thing, there was a shift. Less of that old school style and more contemporary pop. It was a gamble for Leon, but it sure paid off as he won a grammy with single Bet It Ain’t Worth The Hand. A few hits transmitted their way into the set with Beyond and Bad Bad News, among others. With Last year’s self-titled Leon, it was a more introspective look into the artist’s mind. With it PNE grooved to tracks Panther City, That’s What I Love, and like it was Vancouver had Peaceful Place.

I expected some of the “cover” tracks during Leon Bridges In Vancouver to hit big, but Vancouver took it to another level. When Texas Sun kicked in, the crowd erupted with screams, broke into dance, and belted out every word. That single track cast a spell over the city, and it’s clear why, it’s irresistibly catchy!

In Closing

The entirety of Leon Bridges In Vancouver built to an unstoppable crescendo. The 20-track soundtrack to our lives, both unexpected and welcomed, ended on a high note that carried us Beyond. Vancouver closed the night with a final performance that made us realize we truly had a Good Thing in Leon’s music. The touching track focused not only on the stage, but also on the loved ones around us. Vancouver swayed together, left to right, leaving all worries behind in favour of a good time. Exiting the Pacific Coliseum, we felt grateful to witness such a masterful artist who truly defies genre. From the moment I left the show to now, all I can think is, How long until we see Leon Bridges In Vancouver again?
