Viagra Boys In Vancouver came in swinging, turning the Malkin Bowl into a two-night storm of sweat, chaos, and pure punk energy. The Swedish group delivered a rowdy, no-holds-barred performance that matched the wild energy of the crowd. Fans dove into the madness headfirst, fearlessly surfing and moshing from the opening note to the final chord. The 18-song setlist pulled from every corner of the band’s catalog, with heavy doses of their latest project, Viagra Boys, which dropped this past April. Favorites from Street Worms and Welfare Jazz kept the crowd howling, while new tracks pushed the night into overdrive. The tour, fittingly named The Infinite Anxiety Tour, kicked off its very first date right here in Vancouver, setting a high bar for every city to follow.
Texas-based all-girl “sludge” punk outfit Die Spitz opened the night. Thanks to Vancouver’s notorious traffic, we only caught the tail end of their set — and regretted every minute we missed. From what we did hear, their gritty, unrelenting sound hit hard and left the crowd buzzing. Their debut album, Something To Consume, is already making waves with standout singles like “Throw Yourself A Sword” and “Punishers.” Thankfully, fans who missed out or just need more of Die Spitz’s intensity won’t have to wait long. The group is set to headline The Wise Hall this October, giving Vancouver another chance to experience their unfiltered punk fury.
Double-fisting beers and decked out in full rock gear, Vancouver came ready to party, setting the stage for a night of pure mayhem. The good vibes shifted the second the lights went dark and Sebastian Murphy and the rest of Viagra Boys stormed the stage. Seb wasted no time making a statement, rocking a “ban erections” shirt that felt as hilarious as it was ironic. From the opening riff of Man Made of Meat, the crowd erupted into total chaos. Beers flew through the air, fans screamed every lyric, and the barricade shook under the weight of bodies crashing forward. The energy spiked even higher when Seb slipped in a controversial lyric change, adding a line about “a guy named Charlie Kirk who got shot in a freak gang violence accident.” Given the band’s history of pushing buttons, it didn’t come as a shock, but it definitely lit up the crowd and sparked plenty of reactions. It was bold, brash, and pure Viagra Boys, exactly what the night promised to be.
Viagra Boys In Vancouver packed their setlist with eight tracks from their latest release. Standouts like Dirty Boyz, Pyramid of Health, and Waterboy made the cut. The rest of the night was filled with fan favorites such as Ain’t No Thief, Cold Play, and their cult classic Sports. The crowd turned the entire show into a massive, rowdy karaoke session. Every track was met with lyrics screamed at full volume, mostly slurred thanks to heavy drinking. The scene felt less like a concert and more like an English pub. Erupting into song when everyone’s favourite track hits the jukebox. It was chaotic, loud, and messy, but undeniably fun. One of the night’s most memorable moments came when the entire venue united, hands raised high, forming triangles in the air for the band. It was a rare and touching moment of connection amid the beautiful madness.
The night closed with a powerful two-track finale. The Bog Body kicked it off while Worms wrapped it up. Both songs sparked massive reactions as Vancouver fought to make every last moment count. By the final notes of Worms, fans clung to the experience. Unwilling to let it end. A mix of bittersweet emotions filled the air as some let out sad boos, quickly followed by cheers. For a band like this, those boos were the highest form of praise. As I walked out of the historic Stanley Park venue, the crowd floated past me, many still on cloud nine. For some, it was pure adrenaline from the show. For others, well, there were clearly other factors at play. Either way, it was a night to celebrate an iconic band in a city that clearly loves them. Like everyone else streaming out into the Vancouver night, I couldn’t wait for round two.
I’d like to thank Viagra Boys In Vancouver for the wild performance. I’d also like to thank their team for allowing us to capture the madness. If you’d like to find out more on the group, visit here: Viagra Boys Website
