Crankdat Brings His Get Cranked Tour To Toronto

Friday night. Rebel night club. 2,750 people. Crankdat brought his Get Cranked tour to Toronto and the people turned up and turned out for this one. At the door there was no shortage of glittery face paint, fishnets, pashminas and sunglasses. Sprouts dotted peoples hats and buns, while Kandi (bracelets) covered people’s wrists. The energy was endless, and even at doors the bass filled the air and spilled out onto the back deck, which also plays host to Cabana in the summer. The show was supported by Toronto’s own Virus Mafia, as well as up and coming powerhouses Lukav, and Machaki, while we weren’t able to shoot their sets, they still set the mood for the night and made sure the audience was sufficiently excited for what was about to come.

Crankdat brings the party

Just after one am, after nearly three hours of killer music, and a set from Machaki who could have been a headliner in his own right; it was time for the main show to really start. An animated clip popped up on the screen, letting everyone know the house rules. Go wild, and make some noise. He stepped on the stage and the crowd went ballistic. From the first beat people were headbanging and jumping, hands and fans flinging in the air with the pulse of the music. The main floor of the venue became a mosh pit full of frenzied dancers trying to keep up with the synthesized rhythm. Above, people danced along the rails of the second floor as the lasers and lights flashed.

His set continued with hit songs like “stfu”, and “wobble” while throwing in some other remixes that had people from front to back singing along. On the back deck, the cool night air didn’t seem to faze anyone in attendance; from the girl dressed as Luigi (yes from Nintendo), guys wearing Pokémon onesies, and every possible mix in between. It was a show that brought out a wide range of rave goers and general club fanatics (a usual mix for Rebel), and some fans got to enjoy the show from “the crank deck” an area on the stage behind his set up that lets the fans get closer to the music.

Final Thoughts

While the show ended earlier in the night than people were expecting, around two thirty am, the atmosphere was still euphoric, with people playing music off their phones as they walked to transit and waiting Ubers, groups of people laughing and singing.
