Jackson Wang in Toronto

Jackson Wang in Toronto- Magic Man pt 2

What do you get when you mix acrobatics, an insanely well choreographed singer & dancers, and high energy artistry? Jackson Wang. The former GOT7 Member was back in Toronto on part 2 of his Magic Man: World Tour and brought all the same energy and charisma of his previous show. Without openers, he performed for almost 3 hours solo with only his dancers and backing band joining him.

At Coca Cola Coliseum, fans poured in the venue’s gates, a never ending stream of concert goers in mini skirts, furry boots, tinsel hair, and probably a couple dozen labubu’s on purse straps. Though the show started a bit later than some fans may have expected, while they waited they were able to watch concert graphics and music videos on the screens, giving everyone time to get excited for the show. A number of fans stopped us to grab photos of them, posing with the aisle and stage behind them, ‘Magic Man’ sprawled across the stage.

As the lights dimmed and the screams intensified, it took me back to my early boyband days (or really my era’s tour days too, let’s be honest). The absolute pandemonium that came over the crowd could only be attributed to someone so intensely adored as Jackson Wang. In the dark, something moved on stage, then in a blink he was there, floating above his dancers with arms outstretched and his body arched back gracefully in his harness. The song ‘High Alone’ started, and he began to move, sinking lower, twisting over, and reaching out to touch his dancers hands. Then there was darkness again.

High energy audience participation

The rest of the night carried on in spectacular fashion, with high octane songs like “Buck” and “GBAD (Gotta be a dick)” that featured elaborate dance breaks that begged people to dance along, with fast drum lines that translated into a different kind of intensity in person and lyrics that encouraged people to set boundaries and enjoy your life. Before slowing into sensual beats with audience members seated on stage and danced for. One such song was just starting when we finished our three songs, and we somewhat tragically had to miss it.

Turning spectators into fans by the end of the night

Going into this evening, anyone who is aware of Kpop and the rigorous training that goes into creating groups, and idols, knew they would be getting more of an experience than just a concert. These are artists of a different caliber, truly performing because they love nothing more than telling a story and putting on a show. It was a show that left me completely blown away and honestly made me a fan of his music.
