Look, if someone asked you what a perfect Wednesday night in Vancouver looks like, this was probably it. Lewis Capaldi in Vancouver took over Rogers Arena and the place was absolutely packed. Not a single empty seat. And honestly? The room felt it from the moment he walked out. Whether you’ve been riding with Lewis since “Someone You Loved” first wrecked you back in 2018 or you only recently fell deep into his Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent album. This show had your name on it. All 14 tracks felt like a career victory lap that also made room for the newer stuff, including nods to the Survive EP that dropped just a few months ago. That balance is harder to pull off than it sounds, and Capaldi made it feel totally effortless.
Before You Go,” “Bruises,” “Wish You The Best” all hit exactly as hard as you’d expect in a room that size. Couples were holding onto each other like their lives depended on it. Funny thing about a Lewis Capaldi show is that the setlist is full of heartache, but somehow everyone leaves feeling closer to the person they came with. That’s a gift very few artists actually have. The Divinely Uninspired era got its proper love too. “Forever” and “Grace” brought out that specific kind of emotion you forget you’ve been carrying around. Then closing the night with “Someone You Loved” was just something else entirely. Tears everywhere. Voices absolutely blown out. People singing like they’d been waiting years for that exact moment, because honestly, a lot of them had.
It had been a little while since Vancouver got a proper Lewis Capaldi show. Last time around he was playing the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird over at UBC. Which feels like a completely different universe compared to a sold-out Rogers Arena. Watching him grow from a relatively unknown out of Glasgow into someone who can fill arenas across the world and still make it feel intimate is genuinely something to appreciate. If you were there, you already know. And if you weren’t, you’re going to be hearing about it for a while.
I’d like to thank Lewis Capaldi in Vancouver and his wonderful team for allowing me to experience the show. If you’d like to catch a future tour date, please visit here: https://www.lewiscapaldi.com/tour/
