5 Seconds of Summer in Hamilton

5 Seconds of Summer in Hamilton

Tuesday night, 5 Seconds of Summer took over TD Coliseum in Hamilton, as they made their first Canadian stop on this tour. This was a show that many fans had been eagerly waiting for since their last stop in 2023. 5 Seconds of Summer is a boy band that shot to stardom in the early 2010s, alongside artists like Justin Bieber, One Direction, and Ed Sheeran. Like most of them, they originated outside of the USA and brought a new sound to American radio that fans could not get enough of. On this tour, promoting their “Everyone’s a star” world tour, they’ve brought out revolving openers. For this leg of the North American dates, they were supported by the Band Camino.

5 Seconds of Summer bring style and pop rock

Standing in the pit, fans chatted excitedly around us as we waited for the band to appear. The stage is bathed in pink light, smoke curling from the car on the stage that makes up the base for the drum set. As the lights fade and the screens blaze to life, screams start. White light blazes up from the vehicle on stage and one by one the band emerges, instruments raised to the sky. They jumped into their first song ‘Not ok’ and graphics flashed across the screens, the lead singer, Luke Hemmings, blazing across the stage, singing to both the fans and the cameras circling their stage.

As the show went on they played a sweet mixture of new music and the nostalgic songs off of early albums that made their fans fall in love with them in the first place, including ‘Amnesia’, ‘English Love Affair’, and ‘She looks so perfect’. They broke their set up into parts, ranging from part one to part five, chronicling the rise, fall, and redemption of being in a boyband and all the fame and critique that comes along with it. During the segment of their set that they titled ‘the break up, they played a few of the songs from their respective solo projects that they spent the last few years turning into reality before reconvening to create this current album and accompanying tour.

The Encore

The aussie boyband finished off the night with an encore consisting of ‘Everyone’s a star!’ and ‘youngblood’, the song that catapulted them back into global acclaim in 2018. The group put on an engaging and fully immersive show that had both new fans and long time fans seeing stars. If you missed them in Hamilton, they will be playing at RBC Amphitheater on August 05, 2026.
