54-40 in Ottawa Brings Classic Rock Energy to the Hard Rock

54-40 in Ottawa turned a stormy evening into one of those nights that reminds you why live music never goes out of style. While dark clouds rolled across the city outside, the atmosphere inside the Hard Rock was the complete opposite. Fans packed the venue, ready for an evening of classic Canadian rock, with Sass Jordan opening the show before 54 40 took over the stage.

It was one of those concerts where everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there. From longtime fans to first time concertgoers, the energy never really dipped. Even after the show ended, the drive home became an adventure of its own as an intense storm rolled through, with winds so strong they nearly pushed my vehicle off the road. Thankfully the music made the trip well worth it.

Sass Jordan Sets the Tone

This was my first opportunity to see Sass Jordan perform live, so I really did not know what to expect. A few photographers around me had already assured me it would be a great show, and they were absolutely right. Even though I was only familiar with her name before the night began, it did not take long to understand why she has remained such a respected performer throughout her career.

Sass Jordan looked like she was having the time of her life on stage, and that excitement spread throughout the room. Her band matched that energy from beginning to end, with some outstanding guitar solos that had the crowd cheering after nearly every big moment. The set featured songs including Damaged, If You’re Gonna Love Me, Ugly, and I’m The One, giving both longtime fans and newcomers plenty to enjoy.

54-40 Reminds Everyone Why They Are Still Going Strong

When it was finally time for 54-40 to take the stage, the crowd was more than ready. It may have been my first time seeing the band live, but judging by the reaction around me, many people had been waiting for this moment. From the opening songs onward, the audience sang along, clapped, and celebrated every familiar tune that filled the room.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Dave Genn, and one thing that stood out during our conversation was how much the band still enjoys performing together. Watching them on stage made that conversation come full circle. They spoke about their recent visit to Porto, which inspired their album of the same name, before taking fans through a set that balanced newer material with the songs that have defined their career. One of the biggest highlights for me came near the end of the night when they played I Go Blind, a song I had been hoping to hear live.

A Night Worth Remembering

There is something special about seeing a band that genuinely enjoys what they do, and 54-40 made that clear throughout the entire performance. They connected with the audience, celebrated the music they have created over the years, and proved that experience can still bring just as much excitement as any new act on the road today.

I am genuinely glad I finally had the chance to experience 54-40 in Ottawa. Between Sass Jordan delivering a fantastic opening set and 54 40 giving fans an evening filled with classic songs and great memories, it was a night that reminded everyone why these artists continue to draw loyal crowds.
