Summer Walker In Vancouver

Summer Walker Finally Came to Vancouver and Honestly? Worth the Wait

Okay so let’s talk about this. It’s been seven years since Summer Walker dropped Over It and basically became the Princess of R&B overnight. Since then she’s put out album after album, picked up four Grammy nominations, snagged a Billboard award, and racked up over 10.8 billion streams. Seven years, and Vancouver was still waiting for its turn. Most artists would ease into a new city with something like the Commodore Ballroom or the Vogue Theatre. Not Summer. She went straight for Rogers Arena, and on a Friday night no less. Which basically turned the whole city into one big date night. The “Still Finally Over It” tour name is a cute little nod to her three albums. Over It, Still Over It, and Finally Over It (that last one dropped last year and fans could not stop talking about it all night).

There was also this bittersweet undertone hanging over the whole thing. Summer’s mentioned wanting to step back from touring, maybe even hang it up for good. So for a lot of people in that crowd, this wasn’t just their first time seeing her live in an arena. It might’ve been their only shot. Whether this really is the end of an era, nobody knows yet. But if it is, Vancouver showed up and showed out for her.

Some Things Just Aren't Meant to Last

The show kicked off with “Finally Over It,” and Summer came out looking absolutely stunning in a white wedding dress, walking her elderly groom down a catwalk like it was the real deal. Then, mid catwalk, she takes a phone call. And just like that, the fairy tale falls apart. She dumps the poor guy right there on stage. Money confetti rains down, and in a flash that wedding dress transforms into a sparkly corset bodysuit. That’s when you knew the night was really about to start.

22-songs. That’s how much ground she covered, taking the crowd through her whole trilogy of love and heartbreak. And the production matched the ambition song for song. There were moments that felt like being dropped into an old school Hollywood party. Aerial acts, feathered dancers, actual fire performers, costume changes left and right. At one point, Summer literally performed inside a giant martini glass filled with pink water while dancers moved underneath her during “Stretch You Out.” Yes, you read that right. In a martini glass.

The Setlist Hit Different

This wasn’t really a show built around vocal fireworks, and honestly that felt intentional. It was more about the story, the emotion, the visuals all working together. Summer leaned on backing tracks for a good chunk of the night, which some people might side eye, but the crowd turned it into something special instead. Songs like “Body,” “Karma,” and “Just Might” basically became full on singalongs, with fans taking over the vocals. That energy carried into a run of “Come Thru,” “White Tee,” “Deep,” and “Riot,” where it genuinely felt like karaoke night at an arena, phones lighting up the whole place. Then things slowed way down for an intimate acoustic moment, and that’s where Summer really let her voice shine on “Session 32” and “Go Girl.”

“Robbed You” brought out a full blown fire show, dancers and flames taking over the stage. Then came act three, and this is where things got really personal. During “Girls Need Love,” Summer walked out into the crowd. Signing autographs, and just connecting with fans up close. Honestly feeling like a big deal considering how open she’s been about her anxiety and stage fright over the years. From there the show moved to an elaborate B stage set up like a candlelit banquet table. Where “Heart of a Woman,” “Constant Bullshit,” and “Potential” played out with dancers and fans surrounding the whole scene.

And Then It Was Over

Fittingly, the night closed out with the perfection that was “FMT.” Wrapping up a trilogy that’s all about heartbreak with a song that captures exactly that feeling. If there’s any truth to what Summer’s said about stepping away from touring, then Vancouver got to send her off on an absolute high note. Fans could be seen in utter shock, a state of ecstasy and already reminiscing along the Vancouver streets. Summer Walker In Vancouver was an R&B concert unlike anything I’d seen in the city and I know Vancity will be talking about it for years to come.
