We Are Story Tellers
Bachman-Turner Overdrive In Abbotsford was a celebration of legacy. The Back In Overdrive tour was for many, a nostalgic ride through the band’s history. The Canadian group loaded the Abbotsford Centre with a set of classics that would give any fan a thrill. Even with the extensive set, they threw in a few surprises. Opening the night was Vancouver’s very own Headpins, followed by Nova Scotia’s April Wine. Unfortunately we couldn’t make it for them, but fans were quite ecstatic when talking about their performances.
As fans scurry to their seats to catch the opening moments, the lights go dark. Whistling of cheers fill the venue and with it we hear “Take It Like A Man,” fill the arena. Randy and son Tal Bachman now the forefront of the band, lead charge to a 20-song setlist. It ranged from the 1973 self-titled album to brand new track “60 Years Ago”. Surprises to the set were an array of The Guess Who covers “These Eyes,” “No Time,” and even something from Tal. His 90’s classic “She’s So High,” which gained a marvellous uproar throughout the Abbotsford crowd. Joining the tour on drums was Tal’s wife Koko Bachman, Lance Lapointe on Vocals/Bass, and Brent Howard on guitar. All of which were excellent additions to the roster. none of them skipped a beat, and if anything they enhanced the experience. Although taking to a chair for his performance, Randy Bachman didn’t allow himself to be held back as he continuously belted out lyrics. All while shredding through guitar solo’s with life-filled energy.
Overall the night was a success, as BTO reached the final notes of “Roll On Down the Highway,” they were met with screams “One More Song,”. Bachman-Turner Overdrive In Abbotsford became more than just that, instead, a collage of classics were gifted. AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Segar, they were all present on the encore. Bachman began their farewell with an abundance of covers that frankly came out of nowhere, but were received by the crowd turning to a dance floor. If that wasn’t enough, Ending the night on the perfect note, the arena became a full-blown sing-along with “Takin Care of Business,”. It was an adrenaline fueled experience that wasn’t taken for granted and will stick with many for the near future. With lineup changes throughout the years, if there’s one thing Bachman-Turner Overdrive taught me, it’s that there’s always room for evolution.
I’d like to thank Bachman-Turner Overdrive In Abbotsford for the incredible performance and their team for allowing me to capture the magic. If you’d like to catch a future date of the tour or find out more about the group, visit here: https://www.btoband.com/
