Bluesfest 2024 Day 7: Muddy Beginnings and Electrifying Performances

We are back at it for Bluesfest 2024 Day 7 with another muddy one. This time, thankfully, the rain had stopped by the time the festival started. Our headliners today were Offspring and Josh Ross. Originally scheduled was Neil Young, but he unfortunately had to cancel. Despite the initial weather woes, the festival-goers were in high spirits, ready to enjoy a day packed with incredible performances and unforgettable moments.

The day kicked off with high-energy performances and concluded with legendary acts that kept the audience on their feet. The mud may have slowed the start, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd. Let’s dive into the highlights of Day 7 at Bluesfest 2024, featuring an eclectic mix of genres and talents.

Cancer Bats: A High-Energy Opening

Opening the RBC Main Stage was the high-energy band, Cancer Bats. Known for their hard-hitting and electrifying performances, Cancer Bats brought their signature intensity to the stage, setting the tone for the day. As part of the last-minute lineup changes, they delivered a performance that made it clear they were no strangers to the festival’s crowds. Calling themselves “practically an Ottawa band,” the boys connected with the audience on a personal level, bringing a sense of local pride to their set.

Cancer Bats played through a fantastic set of fan favorites, keeping the early-day crowd on their feet and vibing out. Their relentless energy and powerful presence had everyone cheering along. The band’s performance was a testament to their ability to engage and excite a crowd, making them a perfect choice to kick off the day’s events on the RBC Main Stage.

Merle Marlow Band: Bringing Classic Country to the City

Over at the River Stage, the Quebec natives, Merle Marlow Band, brought a classic country feel to the city. Their performance was a refreshing change of pace, offering a blend of traditional country sounds that resonated with the audience. The fans were already filling in to enjoy the night’s lineup, and the Merle Marlow Band set the tone beautifully.

Their music was a great way to open up the country portion of Day 7. With impeccable lighting and a well-coordinated stage presence, the band showcased their skill set, captivating the audience from the first note. The Merle Marlow Band’s performance was a highlight for country music lovers and set the stage for the rest of the day’s acts at the River Stage.

Silverstein: Maintaining the Momentum

Back on the Main Stage, Silverstein kept the energy going with a performance that was nothing short of spectacular. Having never seen them live before, I was particularly excited for this set. Silverstein hit the stage with power and precision from the first note, playing some of their classics that had fans loving every moment.

They interacted with the crowd, sharing their excitement about getting the last-minute call to support Offspring. Silverstein’s dynamic performance and genuine connection with the audience made their set one of the standout moments of the day. The band’s energy was contagious, and their presence on the Main Stage was a perfect continuation of the day’s high-energy vibe.

Alexa Goldie: Captivating with Country Vibes

Up next, keeping the country vibe going on the River Stage, was the beautiful and talented Alexa Goldie. Having been a seasoned festival performer for the last 13 years, Alexa now had her turn on stage to get the fans going. Not only does she have the perfect aesthetic for modern country, but she also has a sound that captivates and excites.

She gushed on stage about how thrilled she was to be there, playing great songs that catered to all her fans. With what I like to call the perfect time slot on the River Stage, Alexa Goldie’s performance was enhanced by perfect lighting and an eager crowd. Her set was a delightful addition to the day’s lineup, keeping the country spirit alive and well.

Josh Ross: The Man of the Hour

Closing out the River Stage was the man of the hour, Josh Ross. Having seen Josh Ross perform several times in the past, I already knew he was going to bring it on stage. He had a pretty large crowd ready for the show, which is always a fun sight to see. Josh played all the favorites, and every fan on their feet was moving and singing along.

His performance was a great way to close out the River Stage, with an energy that kept the audience engaged and entertained. Josh Ross’s ability to connect with his fans and deliver a high-quality performance made his set one of the highlights of Day 7. The River Stage was buzzing with excitement as he wrapped up his show.

Offspring: A Legendary Finale

Closing the RBC Stage was the legendary Offspring. These guys are no strangers to Ottawa, and we were lucky they were able to take the call at the last minute to fill in for Neil Young. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get in the pit to cover the show, but as a true Offspring fan, that wasn’t going to stop me from getting in the crowd and having some fun with everyone.

The main bowl didn’t seem like it was going to fill up at first, but the fans came in droves and made it a party. With the night already having a somewhat blah feeling due to the mud and the weather, Offspring’s performance brought the energy back to the grounds and made it a killer night. Their set was filled with classic hits and fan favorites, making it a memorable finale for Day 7.

Bluesfest 2024 Day 7 started out muddy but ended in a party. The main stage turned into a pop-punk extravaganza with Cancer Bats, Silverstein, and Offspring bringing the vibes. Meanwhile, the River Stage closed out the country vibes with Josh Ross just having fun. The mix of genres and high-energy performances made for an unforgettable day at Bluesfest.

As we look forward to Day 8, we are ready for more incredible performances and memorable moments. The energy and excitement of Day 7 have set the bar high, and we can’t wait to see what the next day has in store. Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from Bluesfest 2024!
