A Perfect Opening Day at Boots and Hearts 2024 Day 1

Boots and Hearts 2024 Day 1 couldn’t have been more perfect. This festival holds a special place in my heart as it’s a yearly tradition where I get to immerse myself in the best country music has to offer. Each year, the festival presents an opportunity to experience incredible performances from artists that I might not get the chance to see back home in Ottawa. Beyond the music, Boots and Hearts is also a reunion of sorts—a time to reconnect with friends I only see at this festival, making the experience even more memorable. The chance to create and share amazing content is the icing on the cake.

In past years, I haven’t always been able to make it to the festival in time for opening day, often missing out on some of the initial excitement. However, this year I made it a priority to arrive early, ensuring I wouldn’t miss a single moment. The anticipation was palpable as I joined thousands of fans eager to kick off the weekend. The energy in the air was infectious, and I knew this year’s festival was going to be one for the books.

Spotlight on the Emerging Artist Showcase

One of the most anticipated events on the first day of the festival is the Emerging Artist Showcase, a competition that has become a staple of Boots and Hearts. This showcase is designed to highlight some of the most promising up-and-coming talent in the country music scene. Each year, eight artists who have been voted on by fans are given a ten-minute slot to wow both the audience and the judges. It’s a golden opportunity for these artists to make a name for themselves, with the ultimate prize being a chance to release a single with Universal Music—a dream come true for any aspiring musician.

The talent on display this year was nothing short of impressive. Artists like Bradley Hale, Maddy McKenzie, Spencer Burns, Sarah Vanderzon, Alexa Goldie, Blue Ridge Band, Erika Rollin, and Cam Galloway each brought something unique to the stage. Their performances were filled with heart and soul, leaving a lasting impression on the crowd. The judges had the tough job of selecting only two finalists, and after much deliberation, they chose Sarah Vanderzon and Blue Ridge Band to move forward to the finale on Sunday. It was clear from their performances that both artists have bright futures ahead of them, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the big stage.

Shantaia: Last Year's Champion Returns

Following the Emerging Artist Showcase, last year’s winner, Shantaia, took the stage, bringing her signature upbeat energy and infectious sound. As the reigning champion of the showcase, she earned an automatic invitation to return to this year’s festival, giving her another opportunity to wow the crowd. Shantaia’s performance was a testament to why she won the competition last year—her stage presence is electric, and she knows how to engage the audience from the moment she steps onto the stage.

One of the things I admire most about Shantaia is her genuine connection with her fans. Throughout her set, the crowd was on their feet, dancing and singing along to every word. After her performance, she took the time to interact with fans, signing autographs, taking pictures, and chatting with everyone who wanted to meet her. It’s this kind of interaction that sets her apart and makes her performances so memorable. Shantaia is not just a performer; she’s an artist who truly cares about her fans, and that’s what makes her a standout in the country music scene.

Lonestar: A Nostalgic Performance

For me, one of the highlights of the day was getting to see Lonestar perform. This legendary band has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, and their music has been a constant on my playlists over the years. Seeing them live was a dream come true, and they did not disappoint. With over 30 years in the industry, Lonestar has honed their craft to perfection, and it was clear from the moment they took the stage that they haven’t missed a beat.

The crowd was a diverse mix of all ages, a testament to the lasting impact Lonestar has had on the country music genre. They kicked off their set with the same energy and enthusiasm that has made them a household name, and the audience responded in kind, singing along to every word. One of the highlights for me was when they played “Already There,” one of my all-time favorite songs, just a few songs into their set. As I stood in the photo pit, snapping pictures, I couldn’t help but sing along. The connection between the band and their fans was palpable, making it a performance I’ll never forget.

Midland: Bringing the Party to a Close

As the sun set on the first day of the festival, the massively popular band Midland took the stage to close out the night. While I’ve always enjoyed their music, I was eager to see how they would bring their signature sound to the live stage. From the moment they started playing, it was clear that Midland was here to throw a party, and the crowd was ready to join in. The energy was almost overwhelming as the band launched into their set, with the lights and the roar of the fans creating an electric atmosphere.

Midland’s set was filled with fan favorites, including hits like “Mr. Lonely,” “Playboys,” and a fun, unexpected rendition of “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Their performance was the perfect way to end the festival’s first day, leaving the audience energized and ready for what was to come. The band’s charisma and chemistry were on full display, making it easy to see why they’ve become such a beloved act in the country music world. As the final notes rang out, there was a sense of anticipation in the air—if this was just the first day, then the rest of the weekend was sure to be incredible.

Boots and Hearts 2024 kicked off with a bang, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend. The Emerging Artist Showcase provided a glimpse into the future of country music, with standout performances that left the audience excited for what’s to come. Lonestar delivered a bucket list performance that I didn’t realize I needed, and Midland closed out the night with a high-energy set that left us all wanting more.

As I reflect on the first day of the festival, I’m filled with anticipation for what’s to come. With both stages set to be in full swing on day two, the energy and excitement are only going to build. Boots and Hearts has always been a highlight of my year, and this year’s festival is shaping up to be one of the best yet. Whether you’re here for the music, the friends, or the memories, there’s no doubt that Boots and Hearts 2024 is the place to be. Get ready for an unforgettable weekend!
