We Are Story Tellers

Day 4 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022

Day 4 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022 was a much-anticipated homecoming for Ottawa’s own Alanis Morissette after not seeing her for the last 25 years and a show-stealing performance from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

Rick Fines

Starting out Day 4 on the Sirius XM stage is Rick Fines. The crowd was intimate but lively while he manned the stage with his guitar ready to go. Rick is an accomplished Blues/Rock guitarist and made sure to showcase that to everyone by playing a mix of some amazing covers and originals. He told the story about writing a song with Suzie Vinnick and putting together a great track. Great way to open the day for sure.

Josephine Leone

Opening the River stage was Josephine Leone. Dj Noah introduced this opening act raving about them being local and playing them at the station often. He described them as Scrunge Rock which was a new one for me but why not. Josephine looked amazing and rocked probably one of the biggest hats I’ve seen on stage before. The band drew in the crowd and made that stage their own.

Garbage

Garbage is next up on the RBC stage getting things ready for Alanis a little bit later. Shirley Manson is such a dynamic presence on stage. The band absolutely rocked out every one of their tracks which was amazing to hear. Shirley told the crowd this was a long time coming after listening to so many people tell them that they shouldn’t even try to book anything and no one was going to show up to hear them. Along for the ride on the drums was legendary producer Butch Vig known for producing NEVERMIND by Nirvana and so many more. Let me tell you right now Ottawa showed up and they loved it….Thank you for coming Garbage!

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Headlining the night on the River stage is Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and the crowd was absolutely jam-packed for this one. Once they hit the stage the fans erupted and the music started. They played so many amazing songs from all the way back to their first album in 2015. The band is so dynamic on stage and you can see how much fun they have the crowd ate it up and cheered them along. It’s amazing to see how much fun those guys have on stage and how much they feed off the crowd. This for me was a standout performance for the night by far.

Alanis Morissette

Closing out night 4 was Ottawa’s own Alanis Morissette. It’s been 25 years since we last saw her live and you can tell by the crowd that showed up we have been waiting for a while. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get up close and snap some shots which would have been amazing but just experiencing her live was awesome. There was a montage to start things off of the iconic career Alanis has had. She took some time to chat with the crowd talking about her kids and connecting with everyone a little more. She played hits from all over her catalog like Hand in My Pocket and an absolutely perfect tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins with the track Ironic. Ottawa sure did miss you Alanis let’s not wait so long next time.

Day 4 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022 It’s about time Alanis came home to share some music with us. Up next is Three Day's Grace and Marshmellow so make sure you get tickets!
