We Are Story Tellers

Day 5 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022

Day 5 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022 was a great start to week 2. Marshmello and Three Days Grace made sure to kick off things with a bang, and pyro and confetti cannons.

Lyle Odjick & The Northern Steam

Kicking off the Sirius XM stage, we have Lyle Odjick & The Northern Steam, not only did he play the best harmonica melodies I have ever heard, but his guitarist knows how to shred! The crowd was intimate but engaging with him throughout the show. It was a mix between rock and blues which everyone attending Bluesfest could enjoy!

Emma Armstrong ft. A Short Walk From Pluto

Opening up the River stage was Emma Armstrong ft. A Short Walk From Pluto. This girl can SING! If you missed this performance, I feel bad for you. Her raspy, but at the same time, soft voice was heard all around the Bluesfest grounds. Her backing band was just as energetic and talented as she was but her lead vocals and energetic performance style stole the show. As their set went on, more and more people started arriving to watch her.

SAINt JHN

Finally, some hip hop on the Bluesfest stage this year! Playing his big hits like “Roses” and “The Best Part of Life”, he got the Bluesfest crowd ready for an amazing evening on the RBC Stage. His energy was unmatched as he took control of the crowd. He was also very attentive to the audience by stopping the show to help an audience member in need of some assistance. To end off the show, he ran through the audience, high-fiving and hugging people, which you don’t always see from Hip Hop artists these days. He was a great act for this lineup.

Crown Lands

This 2 piece band had a PACKED crowd. With only Guitar and Drums, they made it sound like a full band. The drummer also does the vocals on the songs who has an angelic voice. If you are a fan of Led Zeppelin or older style rock, this band is the band for you!

Micheal Franti & Spearhead

He had a wonderful intro played on the screen. It was about how he lost his dad to covid and many others. It was heart warming but he didn’t let it ruin the vibe as he ran out on stage and took the crowd over. He was electric as he sang and played his guitar. He had lyrics on the screen behind him so the entire crowd could participate even if you haven’t seen him before. He got in the crowd as well and took selfies on people’s phones. He was a true act.

Marshmello

Ending the night we have the legend himself, Marshmello. This crowd was from front to back. If you’re thinking to yourself, “I don’t know who this man is”, think again as he has produced and made hundreds of your favorite artist’s songs and he played all of them. As with every EDM show, there were fireworks, C02 cannons, and pyro to make the audience erupt. Marshmellow is famous for having the first ever concert in a video game called Fortnite. There were plenty of families and kids there to enjoy his songs as well!

Three Days Grace

Once Marshmellow ended, I ran over to this set as this band is from my childhood and I wouldn’t miss them for the world. Ending the night on the River Stage, this well-known rock band played all their hits. Growing up, “Pain” was my favorite song and it was just as good seeing it played live. Mosh pits, crowd surfing, and lots of beer drinking went on in the crowd like any other metal show but this crowd came together like a family to support this amazing act.

Day 5 – Ottawa Bluesfest 2022 finishing off strong with the craziness of Marshmello's cannons leading us into Day 6 with Alexisonfire!
