We Are Story Tellers
Friday night at the Centre Bell was a night to remember, as Evanescence made their return to Montreal, joined by heavy hitters Halestorm and The Warning. Each of these female-fronted bands gave incredible performances, proving that the women of rock are as strong and relevant as ever in the music scene.
Walking into the arena, I wasn’t sure I had heard of The Warning before—but that changed quickly when they performed their hit song, “MORE,” early in the set. The sister trio from Monterrey, Mexico, has been making waves in the music world with their captivating guitar riffs and infectious on-stage energy. They were the perfect openers, setting an upbeat and electric tone for the night, and I couldn’t help but smile throughout their performance. I’m excited to see them headlining their own tour in the future.
From the start of her set, Lzzy Hale delivered a performance to remember, kicking things off with an a cappella version of “Raise Your Horns” with her sparkling pink guitar slung over her shoulder. She radiated power and resilience, sharing with the crowd how thrilled she was to tour alongside so many talented women—a special experience in the rock genre. Halestorm’s one-hour set showcased their skill and passion, featuring hits like “Freak Like Me,” “I Get Off,” and a surprise duet with Evanescence’s Amy Lee on “Break In.” I hadn’t listened to much Halestorm before, but this performance changed that.
Then it was time for the rock legends, Evanescence—a band I’ve loved for nearly 20 years. They opened with “Broken Pieces Shine” from their latest album, The Bitter Truth (2021). Amy Lee’s voice remains as powerful as ever, and hearing classics like “Going Under,” “Lithium,” and “Call Me When You’re Sober” live was surreal; they sounded as crisp as they do on the albums. The highlight was “Imaginary,” preceded by a video montage showcasing the band’s accomplishments over the years, which was deeply moving. Evanescence has shown no signs of slowing down, and if you have the chance to catch them live on this tour, don’t miss it—you won’t be disappointed.
