We Are Story Tellers
From the moment the lights dimmed and the band came out, it was clear that this was going to be a show to remember. With their commanding stage presence, and a few unexpected surprises, including a heartwarming fan interaction, the night was a testament to Five Finger Death Punch’s ability to put on a show.
Before The Funeral Portraits set, I had the chance to meet the band backstage and do some pre-show portraits of them. Let me tell you, I’ve met and worked with a lot of people but I have to say The Funeral Portrait was truly some of the nicest guys I’ve met in this industry.
When they hit the stage, you could really see the love and energy they put into their performance. The Funeral Portrait may have only had twenty minutes but they made it feel like an entire show that left you wanting more! Lee Jennings, the lead singer, really commanded the fans attention and interacted with them giving a full experience. They performed some of their hits as well as new work. I’d personally never seen them live before but with their insane sound and stage presence, I left with a newfound respect for the band and their craft!
They just released their newest album called “Greetings From Suffocate City” which includes collaborations with artists like Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria, and Eva Under Fire. I listened to the album in full and in my opinion this is their best work yet! Go stream it and let us know what you think.
Slaughter to Prevail’s took the stage and it was seriously an insane display of raw energy and intensity. From the moment the band took the stage, their deathcore and metalcore sound had the audience zoned in. The band’s frontman, Alex Terrible, really knew how to get the crowd hyped with an explosive presence, his deep vocals and relentless stage antics fueling an atmosphere of rage. You could feel the energy all the way in the back.
The interaction between the band and the audience was nothing short of special, with Terrible’s engaging persona keeping the crowd invested throughout the performance. Circle pits erupted with each song, turning the floor into a pit of moshing fans. Slaughter to Prevail’s ability to sustain such high energy while maintaining a strong connection with their fans really showcased their essence as live performers.
Marilyn Manson’s set was nothing short of great. From the moment he took the stage, it was clear that Manson’s energy was in full force. His set was insane and had a ton of dark charisma, blending intense visuals with his unmistakable vocals. The stage design, complete with dark imagery and props, only amplified the overall experience, making it impossible to look away.
As someone who came into photographing his set with caution—due to the often-discussed tensions between Manson and the media—I was surprised by how the evening unfolded. Manson seemed to have evolved and mellowed, channeling his intensity into a set that was as engaging as it was respectful. The hesitation went away as he proved not only that he could still command the stage with his energy but also that he had honed his craft to deliver a show that had the fans wanting more.
Five Finger Death Punch delivered an unreal headlining performance in Chula Vista that was as intense as it was heartwarming. The band’s stage presence set the tone for a great show, but it was their heartfelt gesture of bringing two kids and their families on stage that truly stole the spotlight. As they stood at the side of the stage, these lucky fans enjoyed an exclusive view of the action, their beaming faces and excitement adding a unique, personal touch to the concert experience. This moment really showed the band’s commitment to connecting with their audience on a deeper level and bringing the next generation to their music.
They performed some of their hit songs “Jekyll and Hyde”, “Wash It All Away”, “House of the Rising Sun”, and Wrong Side of Heaven”, that had fans singing every word while they also made sure to perform newer work that showed how much they still have left in them!
Adding to the night was an impressive skull-shaped microphone stand that immediately drew the crowd’s attention. This striking prop not only fit perfectly with the band’s fierce look but also served as a powerful visual throughout the performance. It complemented the relentless, adrenaline-fueled setlist, making each song feel like a larger-than-life experience. Five Finger Death Punch once again proved they are legends and will always deliver an insane night for fans to remember for years to come.
