We Are Story Tellers

A heavy final day of FME 2024

As the final day of FME started later in the day, it brought out the local metal heads as they filled the theatre for a great closing night.

I Apokalypse: The Chaos Conductor

Hailing from the fiery depths of Quebec’s underground metal scene, I Apokalypse brought sheet intensity to the FME stage. The band’s vocalist ruled the crowd like a fierce general, commanding a sea of black-clad fans with precisioin and fury. His voice sliced through the air, orchestrating walls of death and stoking the flames of chaos.

The energy was palpable as the band, perfectly in sync, delivered their storm of riffs and pounding drums with near-militant precision. Their raw enthusiasm painted the night with a wild, anarchic glow, and while their set didn’t break boundaries, their passion lit up the room.

Fracturus: Steady in the Shadows

In contrast, Fracturus leaned into a more restrained and deliberate approach. Hailing from Rouyn-Noranda, they presented a set that, while not explosive, was dependable. Their tight musicianship earned respectful applause from the crowd, though it lacked the vibrancy of other acts.

The band members—seasoned but understated—delivered with precision, leaving little room for mistakes but also for thrills. It was a performance that kept the night flowing, steading and measured, giving the audience a solid backdrop to the evening’s more dynamic acts.

Martyr: Technical Death Metal Divinity

Martyr, a tech death metal powerhouse from Trois-Rivières, turned the evening into an unforgettable display of mastery. Their set was not just a performance—it was a full-on sonic experience. With their razor-sharp proggy riffs and intricate melodic interludes, they took the audience on a journey through their famed album Warp Zone, which they played in its entirety.

The band’s near-psychedelic precision was awe-inspiring, especially knwoing that the singer and lead guitarist, Dan Mongrain, is also a college professor. This context made their performance feel like a living lesson in technical excellence. Martyr’s ability to weave brutality with fluidity created an immersive experience, leaving everyone in the audience with scrunched faces, entranced by the raw musical power. Every note, every brutal growl, hit like a tidal wave—relentless but graceful.  Martyr’s humility only deepened their connection with the crowd, turning the evening into something intimate and personal despite the sheet scale of their sound.

A Glorious Recap: Four Days of FME Magic

The final day of FME wrapped up an unforgettable festival journeym, marked by electrifying highs and a diverse range of sounds. From NOBRO’S raw punk energy to Martyr’s flawless display of tech death genius, each day offered something uniquely enthralling.
