We Are Story Tellers
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a fan of professional wrestling. GOATS like Triple H, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, Lita, Edge, Christian, Mickie James, and Chyna, made me feel unstoppable but also seen. It gave me a safe space as a kid that I really needed. Despite falling out of wrestling in my teenage years, I found my back to it in the last several years, it’s something that will forever be apart of me. I remember being 9 years old and meeting Chris Jericho, so to be able to photograph his show at 24 was a truly surreal moment. One aspect of wrestling that’s always drawn me in is its connection to rock and heavy metal. I especially remember when the theme song of Monday Night Raw was the iconic “Burn It To The Ground” by Nickleback. Rock has always had that power of connecting and getting people hyped up!
Opening up the night was The Nocturnal Affair and before tonight I wasn’t familiar with their music but I definitely left a fan! They had an incredible stage presence, with lead singer Brendan Shane jumping off stage and getting on the barricade to get closer to the fans. Band members Kellan Kroll and Dru Lappin showcased insane skills on the guitars, some of the best that I’ve ever seen. The Nocturnal Affair covered the iconic song “What Is Love” and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd get more hyped than the Anaheim crowd. Every single person, including the venue staff was singing along at the top of their lungs! I will for sure be catching a future show of theirs, hope to see them headlining one day!
Next up was the one and only Liliac, a powerful female fronted rock band. I personally always love to see women fronting hard rock bands, the scene needs more badass women! Liliac showed Anaheim exactly why they are a force to be reckoned with. Performing some of their hits like “Human”, “Breathe”, “Dear Father”, and even covered “Seven Nation Army” which had me singing along! Each member really showcased their strengths and not one person outshined the other; they did a phenomenal job at making sure everyone was seen and heard! If you have the opportunity to see Liliac live, definitely take it!
Fozzy’s show last night in Anaheim, California, was nothing short of insane! From the moment they began their show, their energy was contagious. The fans really brought an extra level of energy that was amplified by the band’s energetic performance, making it a night to remember. This was my first time seeing Fozzy live, I’ve been fortunate enough to see Chris Jericho live as a wrestler many times, so it was really cool to see him in a different spotlight. He without a shadow of a doubt never fails to put on a show and make sure everyone leaves wanting more!
Throughout the show Fozzy made sure to utilize every inch of the stage in the Parish Room at the House of Blues to interact with their audience. Frontman Chris Jericho was a charismatic whirlwind, making sure to interact with the fans in a manner that made each and every individual feel part of the show. Not a lot of artists do that and it made my respect for him increase!
The atmosphere was intense, building an experience that had the audience singing along and cheering at every opportunity.
The setlist was a perfect mix of their greatest hits and some of their newer material, showcasing not just their musical ability but also their ability to connect with new and old fans in equal measure. Every performance was delivered with style and passion, getting people on their feet and screaming for more. Some of the setlist included “Judas”, “I Still Burn”, and “Nowhere To Run”.
Overall, Fozzy‘s performance in Anaheim was a perfect mix of rockin’ vibes and audience participation, an evening to never forget for all who were lucky enough to be there. If you ever have the chance to catch them in concert, don‘t pass it up!
