We Are Story Tellers
Gone are the days of Warped Tour, but Idobi has brought back a sprinkle of that feeling with their Summer School Tour. With six bands gracing the lineup: Letdown., Honey Revenge, Scene Queen, Stand Atlantic, The Home Team, and Magnolia Park, St. Petersburg was in for a treat!
Starting off the night being the first band of six on the lineup is no easy feat, but in the bright sun and sweltering heat in Florida, Letdown. set the stage on fire! They started off with Karma which was an immediate fan favorite, and became one of my favorites after hearing it performed live. Their energy was perfect as an opener and they set the stage for the night ahead.
Making their return back to Florida, Honey Revenge played to a crowd who knew every word. Lead singer, Devin Papadol, leading the crowd in countless sing-a-long’s as her and fellow members bounced across the stage, their energy contagious. Needless to say, this band can command a crowd, whether you know them or not, you could not help by jump and clap along with them.
The signs on the stage read, “Hot Singles in Your Area Listen 2 Scene Queen” as the crowd amps up for Scene Queen to take the stage. Coming out in a pastel blue and pink outfit, and pink lace-up boots Scene Queen dominated the stage with her presence. Playing her hits like “18+”, “Push-Up Bra”, and even bringing out her boyfriend to help her perform “Barbie & Ken” the performance was nothing short of the “Bimbo-core” aesthetic she pushes.
This Australian pop-punk band fit in just right in the line-up. Their set offered a slower tempo than the others and let the crowd catch their breath. With an eleven song setlist you were able to get a glimpse of all this band has to offer, from ballads to high energy “dance in the pit” songs.
It was in true Home Team fashion that they would troll their own fans. The lights darkened and one by one the members of the band took the stage, even their lead Bryan Butcher, dressed in an inflatable elephant suit, or so the crowd thought. After a dance break by the inflatable elephant, Butcher emerged from backstage and opened up their set with “Brag”. Their set was a mix of old and new, playing back favorites from their album Slow Bloom and highlighting songs from their newest release The Crucible of Life just nine days prior. They ended their set with their tik-tok sensation song “Loud” and left the crowd wanting more.
Closing out the night was Magnolia Park. Their nine song setlist brought the crowd home after six hours of music. They played fan favorites such as “Do or Die” and “Addison Rae” which had the crowd singing along as beach balls popped around the pit. It was a great closeout set that had fans saying “I would definitely go back to summer school”
