Malcolm Todd Proves He Is The Next Big Thing
It was only a few years ago that I was a young teenage girl obsessed with the newest heartthrob to take over my Spotify. Last Friday, standing in a packed room for Malcolm Todd, I couldn’t help but feel that same spark all over again. Everywhere I looked, I saw young fans, fans my age, and a whole crowd discovering a new love for Malcolm and his music. Through all the homemade signs and DIY’d outfits, you could feel just how deeply his fans wanted to be seen, to show Malcolm that his music mattered in their lives. His latest tour, The Wholesome Rockstar Tour, showed he was just that. He’s an artist whose indie pop and R&B fusion translates effortlessly from headphones to the stage, turning personal songs into a collective experience.
Talking about heartthrobs, Indianapolis got a double dose with opener Two Lips. The duo brought an undeniable charm to the stage. Their vocals were soft yet striking, the kind that pulled the crowd in from the very first song. Their banter and playfulness on stage set the perfect tone for the evening, making it impossible not to smile along with them.
Malcolm’s entire set pulled everyone in. He had this way of shifting from playful to romantic without ever losing the crowd’s attention, making the night feel equal parts fun and intimate. My favorite moment was Florence, which carried a sweet and romantic quality live. Proof that Malcolm really is a lover boy at heart. Beyond the songs, it was his personality that stood out: he talked with the audience between tracks, joked with fans in the front row, and made the whole room feel like we were in on something special. I walked in only casually familiar with his music, but I walked out with a playlist full of his songs and the certainty that this won’t be the last time I see him live.
