With Marianas Trench In Vancouver being a hometown show, I expected a strong turnout, but the Pacific Coliseum nearly sold out, even surprising me. Less than a year had passed since the city hosted a major performance from the band, yet fans showed up in full force. The night became a celebration of their latest album, Haven, but like their Orpheum performance, it doubled as a discography showcase with 20 tracks spanning their career. Marianas Trench kicked off with a burst of energy courtesy of AC/DC… sort of. As the Coliseum went dark and fans erupted into screams, the arena was hit with the full force of Thunderstruck. For some, it might have felt long, but it worked perfectly as a build-up, leading seamlessly into A Normal Life.
The track opened intimately, with Josh Ramsay shrouded in fog as he sang. The song swelled to a peak, introducing Matt Webb on guitar, Mike Ayley on bass, and Ian Casselman on drums. From that moment, Marianas Trench In Vancouver had energy hitting 11. Bandmates bounced off each other, stage effects dazzled, and fans screamed at the top of their lungs. It was clear why this band has thrived since 2001. The hits came fast, with Rhythm of Your Heart and Desperate Measures keeping the momentum rolling. Haven dominated the set, with seven tracks immersing the audience in the latest album. Down To You, Nights Like These, and Into The Storm left fans in a daze, fully swept up in the night.
A few standout moments had Josh getting up close and personal with the crowd, performing Pop 101 and Have You Had Enough right among the fans. Near the end of the set, he went acoustic for a powerful rendition of Good to You. The audience hung on every note, soaking in the intimacy and creating memories that will last for years.
Marianas Trench In Vancouver closed the night with one of their most memorable tracks from Ever After, Fallout. The arena erupted as thousands of voices sang every word, leaving no other sound to be heard. Hundreds of phones captured the moment while fans jumped and cheered, turning the venue into a sea of energy. The performance was nothing short of earth-shattering, a memory the band and fans alike would take home. From the reaction of the core four, it was clear they felt the hometown love like nowhere else.
I’d like to thank Marianas Trench In Vancouver and their team for allowing us to experience the show. Also a huge thanks to the PNE Summer Night Concert Series for letting us capture the memories. If you want to find out more on the PNE summer concerts, please visit here: PNE Summer Concerts
