We Are Story Tellers

Mayday Parade’s “Three Cheers for 20 Years” Tour takes over Royal Oak

On 5/17/2025, the Royal Oak Music Theatre rang out with the sound of nostalgia, passion, and pop-punk supremacy as Mayday Parade rolled through town on their Three Cheers for 20 Yearsanniversary tour. Joined by Microwave, Grayscale, and Like Roses, the night proved to be a celebration of the band’s legacy.

Like Roses

Oklahoma’s Like Roses brought raw emotion and tight musicianship that showed their status as the opener on this tour. Their set leaned into emotional lyrics and melodic hooks, drawing early arrivals with songs about heartbreak, growth, and trying to find peace in the middle of chaos. Frontman Chandler Brown’s vocals shined through the mix with clarity, and though their time on stage was short, Like Roses made a lasting impression on a crowd eager for authenticity.

Grayscale

Philadelphia’s own Grayscale followed with a dynamic performance that showcased their career from Warped Tour hopefuls to genre-blending standouts. Mixing pop-punk melodies with emo undertones, the band played an impressive set, including crowd favorites like “Fever Dream” and “In Violet.” Their stage presence was effortless yet energetic, with frontman Collin Walsh engaging the audience at every turn.

Microwave

Atlanta-based Microwave took a heavier, moodier approach, an intentional change of pace that added to the evening. Their mix of muddy riffs and vulnerable lyricism offered a more emotional experience. Songs like “Lighterless” and “But Not Often” were delivered with a slow-burn feeling that eventually erupted into controlled chaos. Microwave’s ability to build tension and release it gained new fans from an audience who came for pop-punk but stayed for the emotional range.

Mayday Parade: Two Decades, Eight Albums

As Mayday Parade hit the stage, applause swept through the venue. The band opened with “By The Way,” immediately setting the tone for the night. For the next ninety minutes, the Florida quintet delivered a career-spanning set that served as both a victory lap and a love letter to the fans who grew up with them. Tracks like “Jersey,” “Bruised and Scarred,” and “Oh Well, Oh Well” were met with passionate singalongs, while deeper cuts like “Stay” and “Anywhere But Here” gave longtime followers a chance to hear songs live that shaped their teenage years. Vocalist Derek Sanders often paused between songs to thank the crowd for two decades of support. At multiple points, he stepped behind a piano for songs including “Miserable at Best” and “Terrible Things.” The entire venue sang so loud you couldn’t even tell Derek was singing. The band’s chemistry, having been built on years of touring and recording, was definitely something every band would want. Each member looked like they were exactly where they wanted to be, and the gratitude shining from the stage was noticeable.

Final Thoughts

Mayday Parade’s Three Cheers for 20 Years tour is more than a nostalgic experience; it’s a celebration of connection, growth, and survival in a music landscape that easily gets written off. Royal Oak Music Theatre provided the perfect setting for that celebration; its intimate but not so small size magnified the emotional weight of the night. For fans who have cried to these songs, screamed them in their car, or clutched their heart through heartbreak, this show wasn’t just a concert. This show served as a reunion, a reminder, and a reward. Mayday Parade may be twenty years in, but judging by this performance, they’re far from finished.
