We Are Story Tellers

Music Publishers Canada opens applications for its sixth year of the Women in the Studio National Accelerator.

Toronto, ON – February, 8th, 2024 –  Music Publishers Canada will once again offer the series of curated production and songwriting-related opportunities and networking experiences to women-identifying, gender-fluid, non-binary, and gender non-conforming producer-songwriters from across the country.

Uplifting historically underrepresented demographics

The Accelerator aims to provide applicants with skills development and networking opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible to them. Participants will gain valuable insights from mentors and industry experts for the duration of the program starting with sessions in June through to December 2024. The program will focus on topics including technical and songwriting skills, branding, and financial and music business literacy, and will offer opportunities for creative collaborations. Each producer, as a condition of acceptance, will be asked to explore volunteer opportunities in their community.

Eligible candidates must have/meet the following
  • A mid to high-level working producer-songwriter with experience producing for others (indicate proficiency in at least one DAW)
  • A streamable link to 3 examples of works they have produced, noting if they are also credited as a co-writer and/or artist.
  • A Canadian resident with proof of residency.
  • Identify as a woman, gender fluid, non-binary, and/or gender non-conforming person
  • Be available to be in Toronto in-person between August 23 – 30, 2024. Exact dates are to be confirmed at a later date.
Notable Alumni

A plethora of notable names have participated in the program’s first five years including three-time Music Nova Scotia African Canadian Artist of the Year Reeny Smith, and Sierra Noble, whose original music has been featured in TV shows such as One Tree Hill, Switched at Birth, and Parenthood and Francesca Nocera, aka Sun Sun, member of rap-electro, dub hop group Above Top Secret and Witch Prophet, who has shared stages with amazing acts like Shabazz Palaces, The Halluci Nation, Lido Pimienta and JPEGMAFIA.

Deadline

Applications will be accepted online until Tuesday, February 27, 2024, and can be submitted either by the candidate directly, or on behalf of a candidate (as long as the candidate is interested and able to participate in all aspects of the program).

Applications are reviewed by an external jury, and selected candidates will be invited to proceed to an interview. Only successful candidates will then be contacted by Music Publishers Canada.
