Ninja Sex Party In Vancouver

Ninja Sex Party In Vancouver was a night filled with hilarious antics and overall incredible performances. The sold-out show brought the long-awaited “Pure Elegance Tour” to the Commodore Ballroom. The duo comprises Dan Avidan and Brian Wecht, who take on the characters of Danny Sexbang, a hypersexual Jewish superhero, and Ninja Brian, a silent yet psychotic ninja sidekick. If those names and descriptions give off a comedic vibe, that’s because this band is one of the top acts in the comedy music scene. Dan’s no stranger to comedy as one of the faces and voices of the internet channel Game Grumps, which he co-hosts with Arin Hanson. On top of Game Grumps, Dan and Arin have collaborated with Brian for a separate band, Starbomb,. Speaking of collaborators, a big contributor to NSP and opener of the night was Canadian synth-rockers TWRP.

TWRP Takes Vancouver Through a Journey of 69 Songs

What does a cat, a robot, an alien, and a guy wearing a traffic cone on his head have in common?. They’re all part of the band Tupper Ware Remix Party, or TWRP for short. This comedic group had quite the night as they performed over 69 tracks for Vancouver… well, not really, more like 10 songs. The group is a full-costume theatrical band with 80s style oozing from their core. The band is made up of Doctor Sung, Lord Phobos, Commander Meouch, and Havve Hogan.

When the set began with Doctor Sung wheeling onto stage on an Oxboard, it was clear Vancouver was in for the time of their lives. The group performed tracks like “VHS,” “Atomic Karate,” and “Synthesize Her”. All delivered with physical comedy that had the crowd in hysterics. A memorable moment had Doctor Sung showing off his nunchuck skills. What would normally seem out of place somehow felt just right with the band’s vibe. On top of the killer tracklist and interactive performance, the band was extremely active. Not only were they the night’s openers, they also served as Ninja Sex Party’s instrumental group. As TWRP closed with “A Human’s Touch,” they were met with an earth-shattering round of applause from the sold-out crowd. Following the lengthy response came the performance many had been waiting for, Ninja Sex Party In Vancouver.

Chaos, Capes, and Comedy: A Night With Ninja Sex Party

Walking out to a screaming crowd, Ninja Brian and TWRP got things going with “Get Ready (To Get Ready).” Hitting the stage to send the energy even higher was Dan, who arrived in an elegant, glam-filled dress, cape and all. What followed was a night of 15 infectious tracks and hilarious bits. One recurring bit involved Brian playing a soundbite of Paul Stanley of Kiss saying “Hello Toronto.” It got the crowd booing in a cheeky, fun way, with Brian acting upset and Dan visibly annoyed.

Setlist & Highlights

With nine studio albums under their belt, Ninja Sex Party In Vancouver pulled from their entire catalog, with a few surprise covers sprinkled in. Tracks like “6969,” “Welcome to My Parents’ House,” “Orgy for One,” and “Heart Boner” were clear standouts. They also performed covers of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record),” and a premiere of The Cars’ “Just What I Needed” as part of an upcoming cover project. One of the biggest surprises of the night was a rendition of Korn’s “Freak on a Leash,” which had the crowd ready to break stuff.

Midway through the night, Ninja Brian took part in an unexpected bit involving corn, where he dropped corn down his pants during a ten-step standoff. Corn was thrown across the stage, eventually landing down his pants again. The bit had the crowd cheering like it was a home-team goal at a sports game. Other highlights included the band covering and adding to some of TWRP’s songs like “The Hit” and “Starlight Brigade.”

In Closing

For the entirety of Ninja Sex Party In Vancouver, the crowd was asked not to bring out their phones, until the final track, “Danny Don’t You Know?”. As soon as the song was announced, the crowd erupted. With phone lights illuminating the room, the band and audience came together, singing every lyric in unison. As the final note rang out, Vancouver gave the group a roaring round of applause. As the band stood front and center, thanking the crowd, the city cheered them back in gratitude for a night that clearly left a mark. If you ever get a chance to see Ninja Sex Party in Vancouver, it’s an opportunity you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
