OK GO In Vancouver

OK GO In Vancouver was a blast… quite literally. The Chicago group, famously known for their infectiously catchy tracks and inventive music videos, kicked off the first of two sold-out nights at the Commodore Ballroom. We caught night one, and it was a wild ride filled with confetti, high energy, and great vibes all around. Like many fans, I first discovered them through their breakout video “Here It Goes Again.” Or as most people call it, “The Treadmill One.” Jokes aside, that’s one of those tracks you can name within three seconds of hearing it, which is pretty impressive. The group, led by Damian Kulash, hit the road for their And The Adjacent Possible Tour, celebrating their latest album of the same name. Opening the night was LA EXES.Intro

From Heartbreak to the Big Stage: LA EXES Tear Down the Ballroom

Who would’ve guessed a group chat about breakups could evolve into indie-pop stardom? LA EXES lit up the Ballroom with a high-energy set that got the Vancouver crowd hyped in the best way. Even before they hit the stage, the venue was packed. From “Cocaine Girl” to “Temporary Goodbye,” and a stunning cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger,” their performance delivered. At moments, I picked up hints of HAIM, a touch of the Beach Boys, and definite flashes of another all-female favorite, The Beaches. If you vibe with any of those, LA EXES should be on your playlist. By the time they wrapped up, the adrenaline was flowing and the crowd was more than ready for OK GO In Vancouver.

Here We Go Again: OK GO Shows Vancouver How to Spend a Saturday Night

From the very first note, it was go time. “This Too Shall Pass” opened with a bang, as confetti blasted into the crowd and Damian leapt past the barricade into the pit. That lightning energy never let up. The 20-song set was a full-on celebration of their career. Classics like “Here It Goes Again,” “Get Over It,” and “White Knuckles” gave fans their nostalgia fix, while new tracks like “Love,” “This Is How It Ends,” and “Better Than This” pulled everyone into the moment.

Highlights

The high-octane nature of OK GO In Vancouver felt like a non-stop joyride. And when I say there was confetti, I don’t mean a few blasts here and there. I mean it was basically raining the entire show. At one point, the crowd was laughing at how absurdly much there was. Damian even joked about how suspicious hundreds of pounds of confetti looked to border agents. But beyond the spectacle, the band delivered a stellar performance. Tim, Andy, and Dan have been with OK GO for over 20 years, with Andy joining in 2005 (replacing the previous Andy, yes, really). The chemistry between them was electric. They were in constant motion, engaging with fans, and clearly having the time of their lives. One unforgettable moment was when Damian ran through the crowd and performed “This Is How It Ends” acoustically from the center of the pit. It was intimate, quiet, and absolutely captivating, a moment of shared stillness that brought everyone together.

In Conclusion

OK GO In Vancouver kicked off their first of two nights with pure magic. There was no better place to be on a Saturday night. If that was night one, the second show had a lot to live up to. What makes OK GO stand out is how seamlessly they bring their creative vision from screen to stage. The visuals were impressive, especially the massive light panels, but what really stayed with me was the connection between band and crowd. Damian was constantly jumping into the audience, not just performing, but celebrating with us. It felt more like a rally than a concert. This show will be talked about for a long time, and I can’t wait to see what OK GO brings next time they’re in town.

Thank you to OK GO In Vancouver for the wonderful memories created at the show. And thank you to their team for allowing us to experience and capture the magic of the night. If you’d like to find out more about the band, please visit here: https://okgo.net/
