Experience Orla Gartland perform in NYC as she lights up Webster Hall with hits, heartfelt lyrics, and high-energy moments on her Hero Tour stop.
The Hero Tour
Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, singer-songwriter Orla Gartland performed her third stop on the North American The Hero Tour at Webster Hall in New York City.
Before the artist even entered the stage, the venue rang out with the sounds of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out For A Hero”, a fitting transition into the start of this The Hero Tour night. Orla opened the show with her track “SOUND OF LETTING GO” from her 2024 album Everybody Needs a Hero. The punchy, alt-rock tune is about embracing vulnerability when wanting to open up to someone. Fans were chanting along as each chorus came around with the lyrics “I can’t change you, can’t change me, can’t change anything / So, I guess I gotta let it go / that’s the sound of letting go.”
Netflix Fame
Later on in the setlist, Orla played her biggest hit “Why Am I Like This?”. Although it was released in 2019, “Why Am I Like This?” gained significant recognition in 2022 after being featured in Season 1, Episode 2 of the hit Netflix series Heartstopper. The song’s lyrics address self-doubt and insecurity. Orla told her audience that she is happy that a song which she wrote about her own experiences was able to be used to represent other people’s experiences as well. During the soft, quiet chorus of the song, the audience joined together in a beautiful choir of voices while Orla stepped back from the microphone to admire the impromptu moment.
Questions, but no answers
Orla introduced the next song, a new release entitled “Now What?” and joked by pointing out that this track name is “another question, because apparently I have a lot of questions and no answers.” Once the artist finished “Now What?”, she proclaimed “enough sad songs! From now on it’s a party, and who better to kick off a party than Chappel Roan?” leading into a cover of “Red Wine Supernova”. The hugely popular, upbeat number got the crowd jumping and the energy levels rising.
For the next track “Backseat Driver”, the singer called up fans to join her in singing on stage. The rest of the night at the NYC stop of Orla Gartland’s TheHero Tour was full of energy, alt-pop melodies, storytelling lyrics, and great vibes.
