We Are Story Tellers
Peach Pit in Calgary, AB. They brought their world tour to support the release of their newest album, Magpie. Featuring openers Babe Corner.
Babe Corner crossed the intersection into greatness in Calgary, proving that they’re worthy of a big stage even though it can barely contain them. Riding the indie wave, Babe Corner combines floating dreamlike synths with hypnotic guitar riffs that infuse everyone in earshot. The band, from Vancouver, BC, has been on the rise since their release of their album Crybaby, and joins Peach Pit on their world tour. Their soft sound pairs perfectly with Peach Pit’s chill yet entrancing vibe. Their dreamy harmonies matches their stage presence, soft yet powerful, almost asking you to pull into them closer and fully give into the sound. Babe Corner put on a fantastic show, and it was a real treat to have seen them at Sled Island in a brewery a couple years back to now see them take the big stage at Grey Eagle. Hopefully Babe Corner comes back to Calgary soon, as everyone in the crowd was hanging on their sound like their lives depended on it.
Every Canadian (and really, every person) who knows anything about the indie circuit knows about Peach Pit. They’ve been on a meteoric rise, entrancing crowds with their stage presence and their perfectly paced melodies. Peach Pit is a mainstay, and that’s becoming increasingly evident, from their huge crowd at the 2024 Calgary Stampede to their completely sold out show last night at Grey Eagle in Calgary. What can we say? Calgary adores Peach Pit, and how could we not? With lyrics that tug at the heart strings and are incredibly relatable paired with bewitching riffs, Peach Pit is not only loved in Canada, but loved worldwide. Their entrance into the stage was beyond grand, the crowd roared as soon as they stepped foot in front of them, and they swung into an absolutely masterful intro of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs that transitioned into their song Magpie, and then back into War Pigs. I’ve gotta say, it was insanely impressive and kicked off this Calgary show in such a perfect way.
Each member of Peach Pit has an undeniable electric stage presence that gets reflected back onto them by an equally electrified crowd. Though their performance was filled to the brim with energy, one of the most poignant moments of the set was during their encore when their lead singer, Neil, did an acoustic version of their song “Peach Pit” from 2018, some would say a deep cut from their discography. The entire crowd sang along. It formed such an intimate connection between Neil and the whole audience, ebbing and flowing with one another as if they were just friends singing along to a song together while hanging out. It was a perfect pairing with their final song of the night, Tommy’s Party. From starting out with charged energy to lulling the audience into an enthralling final act, Peach Pit’s show in Calgary was amazing. I feel so thankful to have witnessed this absolute sledgehammer of a show.
The evolution of their sound has been nothing short of hypnotizing, gaining them worldwide recognition that shows no signs of slowing down. Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Peach Pit has consistently shown that they’re a band to reckon with and that they’re here to stay. Thank you for Peach Pit in Calgary, AB
