We Are Story Tellers
Pond In Vancouver was an unforgettable night as these Australian psychedelic rockers exploded onto the stage. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation as the group was celebrating the release of their album “Stung!” with their Stung! Tour. The Commodore Ballroom was practically sold-out, with fans eager to see the band deliver their signature blend of mind-bending sounds. The room was pulsating with excitement before the band even took the stage, thanks to an early crowd eager to soak in the dreamy indie vibes of Fazerdaze.
New Zealand singer-songwriter Amelia Rahayu Murray, performing under her alias Fazerdaze, delivered a set that had the audience soaring in pure bliss. With a captivating blend of dreamy indie-pop, Fazerdaze unleashed an unforgettable six-track performance. Seamlessly weaving songs from her past albums alongside new gems from her recently released Soft Power album. Tracks like “Cherry Pie,” “A Thousand Years,” and “Bigger” ignited the crowd, their infectious rhythms and heartfelt lyrics left the audience in a state of euphoria. Fazerdaze’s entrancing stage presence and magnetic energy made it crystal clear why they were chosen to open the night.
As the clock struck 9pm and the house lights dimmed, an electric buzz filled the air—Vancouver was ready for Pond. The crowd’s erupted in an explosion of energy, a fitting welcome for a band with such a dynamic sound and legendary catalogue. From the first note of “I’m Stung,” the stage came alive with raw intensity. The band’s vibrant energy was contagious, fueling the audience’s excitement as they grooved along to each hypnotic riff. It was clear from the start—Pond was about to take Vancouver on a high-octane musical journey.
One of the night’s wildest highlights was Nicholas Allbrook’s electrifying, unfiltered performance—mic-whipping, crowd-surfing, and even busting out a flute solo. The chaotic energy was unmatched, with guitarist “Shiny” Joe Ryan, Jay Watson, and Jamie Terry seamlessly feeding off each other, creating an explosive synergy. Their sound, a psychedelic force reminiscent of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard, and Tame Impala, took the crowd on an unforgettable ride. Fun fact: Pond shares roots with Tame Impala, with Kevin Parker having been a drummer for Pond, while Watson and Allbrook both have ties to the iconic band.
Fifteen tracks had the crowd in a frenzy as Pond tore through hits from their legendary catalogue. It included anthems like “Paint Me Silver,” “Sweep Me Off My Feet,” “America’s Cup,” and “Medicine Hat.” With their fresh release Stung!, they treated fans to new jams like “Black Lung,” “Neon River,” and “SO LO”. As a long-time Pond fan, I was blown away by the night’s incredible setlist. Judging by the roaring crowd, it was clear they were just as thrilled as I. The energy was through the roof—this was a night to remember!
As the final notes of Pond In Vancouver with “Don’t Look At The Sun or You’ll Go Blind” echoed through the venue, the audience’s uproar rattled every corner. Pond’s performance was unforgettable—a masterclass in musical brilliance that will stay with the crowd for a long time. Nicholas Allbrook’s moves like (Mick) Jagger, paired with the irresistible charisma of the band, made it clear why this band sells out venues night after night. Pond In Vancouver left the crowd buzzing, and from observation, can’t wait for the chance to experience Pond’s magic again.
I’d like to thank Pond for their electric performance and if you’d like to find out more about the group please visit their website here: https://pond.band/
