Rainbow Kitten Surprise in Toronto

Rainbow Kitten Surprise in Toronto: Bright energy and an alternative flare

Rainbow kitten surprise electrified Toronto on night one of their two back to back shows with a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds. True to their name they lit up History with their signature style on their Bones tour. The album for which they’re touring came out back in September of 2025, with many fans eagerly awaiting tour dates in their city since their last stop at Budweiser stage in 2024.

Common People bring the energy

As the fans began to fill the venue, their opener, Common People took the stage to set the tone for the night. The talented ensemble from Los Angeles brought their evolving folk and rock sound to a whole new audience. Toronto welcomed them warmly, with many new fans finding themselves in the comfort of those already familiar with their music.

They brought their unmistakable energy to the crowd, getting down along the barricade and passing set lists to fans that screamed the words to some new songs from their single/ ep Don’t Worry. They opened their set with their song ‘Thank you’ , a gritty song about yearning and standing in the place of a relationship that’s no longer there. The guitar backing lyrics like “thank you for calling, guess you’ll take anybody.” telling us about the narrator’s position in this back and forth game. Towards the end of their set they covered The Pixies hit song, Where is my mind? a choice that sent the crowd wild, people lifted their phones to record the moment, while others threw their arms over their friends shoulders to sing along. When the band thanked the crowd for being there and the lights came on, people made their way to the merch table and the bar, smiles blazing across their faces. Everyone was ready for the headliner. As people passed, you could hear their reviews of the opener, high energy, great sound, really fun to watch. Some show reviews seem to write themselves.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise light up the night

As the lights blared back to life, and the haze filtered out the pink and purple tones that danced across the stage, the band came out one by one, slow plucks of guitars and gentle taps of keys warmed the air and primed the crowd. They jumped in with their punchy song ‘Hell Nah’ to start off their set. This particular song is off their new album Bones, and it chronicles life after. Life after a breakup, life after a betrayal, life with another person calling and promising after failing to keep their word in the first place. The cadence of the song is similar to their usual sound, with raspy vocals that add a deeper layer to the song.

Their set consisted of new material from their Bones album, and cult classics like Painkillers, and First Class. The audience danced along, matching the energy that Ela and her bandmates pushed into the room. Their set kept the energy high and they sounded as good in person as they do in your car or on vinyl.

It's Called: Encore

As they left the stage, the typical shouts for an encore echoed throughout History, and anyone who’s seen them before (or really has been to a concert before) knows that they can’t end the show without playing ‘It’s Called: Freefall.’ a song so widely popular that even people who aren’t fans of the band hear it and have a moment of recognition (Oh, they sing this?!). This was a concert that had me wondering why I had never seen them live below. It was such a high energy and positive, welcoming space that would make anyone want to come back over and over.
