We Are Story Tellers
Montreal’s country music fans were in for a treat as the Red Clay Strays made their highly anticipated Canadian debut with a sold-out performance. The Alabama-based band brought their signature Southern twang to an electrified crowd, proving that country music has a thriving home even in the heart of Quebec.
Opening the night was Brent Cobb, the Georgia-born blues and country singer-songwriter. A Grammy-nominated artist since 2018, Cobb set the tone with a laid-back yet powerful set, all while casually sipping on a Miller Lite. His setlist included two unexpected but well-received Bon Jovi covers, blending classic rock with his deep Southern roots. He also reminisced about knowing the Red Clay Strays since 2018, back when they were “just babies” in the music scene.
When the Red Clay Strays finally took the stage, the atmosphere hit a new level of excitement. The band, hailing from Mobile, Alabama, has been making waves, recently earning a nomination for Best New Artist at the Canadian Country Music Awards. For their first-ever Canadian show, they made sure to embrace the city, with some members sporting Montreal Canadiens jerseys—a gesture that won over the local crowd instantly.
Lead vocalist Brandon Coleman commanded the stage with charisma, even showing off some Elvis-inspired dance moves that had fans roaring. The audience, clearly familiar with the band’s catalog, sang along to every song, making the performance feel like an intimate gathering rather than a concert. Adding to the ambiance, the stage was lined with glowing light bulbs, evoking a rustic, barn-like atmosphere that perfectly complemented their raw, Southern sound.
The timing of the concert couldn’t have been better. Montreal was experiencing its first warm day of the year at 15°C, which only amplified the excitement. The city’s country music lovers turned out in full force, many donning cowboy hats, embracing the spirit of the night. The Red Clay Strays delivered a powerhouse set, leaving no doubt that their music transcends borders and that their Canadian fanbase is only just beginning to grow.
