We Are Story Tellers
Rise Against in Vancouver was nothing short of a legendary experience. Packed with nostalgia and adrenaline, these punk-rock titans tore through The Harbour Centre like a whirlwind. The sold-out crowd was absolutely electrified, and the Illinois-based band ignited the room with raw power and unrelenting energy. From the first riff to the last scream, Rise Against sent fans soaring to the stratosphere, with every song fueling the madness and amplifying the intensity.
Acting as Ignition, Ohio’s indie rockeers Cloud Nothings, brought the house down with a blistering performance that had the Vancouver crowd buzzing from the first note. Singer Dylan Baldi and co. were on fire, delivering a tight, pulse-pounding set that effortlessly loosened up the crowd. Just shy of a year since their last show at the Harbour Centre, it was clear the band was back with even more fire and totally at home in the Vancouver scene. The energy was palpable, and the audience was hungry for more. As the last chords rang out, it was time to shift gears and hand the spotlight over to the highly anticipated L.S. Dunes, ready to take that energy even higher.
Jaw-dropping doesn’t even begin to capture the fury that was L.S. Dunes’ performance. From the moment frontman Anthony Green took the stage, it was clear this band was about to unleash something extraordinary. Green’s unfiltered chaotic performance screamed with raw intensity as he leapt and whipped the mic through the air. But he wasn’t alone in this sonic assault. The powerhouse lineup of guitarist Frank Iero (of My Chemical Romance fame), along with Tucker Rule, Tim Payne, and Travis Stever—delivered a wall of sound that hit like a freight train. Just when you thought the night couldn’t get any more electric, it was time for the true showstoppers to take the stage. Enter Rise Against In Vancouver.
The air was thick with anticipation as the crowd, electrified and eager, waited for the moment that had been years in the making. Fans could hardly contain their excitement, knowing they were just moments away from releasing years of pent-up passion. Then, without warning, it all exploded. The first few notes of “Satellite” rang out, and the Harbour Centre erupted into a frenzy of roaring excitement. The deafening screams of the crowd rose so loud, they nearly swallowed the sound of the guitar. But when Tim McIlrath and the rest of the band stormed the stage, it was a sonic storm, and the energy skyrocketed to a fever pitch. Every voice in the crowd surged in unison, amplifying the raw intensity of the moment.
Rise Against In Vancouver was a nearly two-hour set that was an absolute rollercoaster, packed with hits spanning the band’s entire career. From the intense power of “Re-Education (Through Labour)” to “Swing Life Away,” and the crowd-shaking “Prayer of the Refugee,” every track hit with the force of a hurricane. But despite the killer setlist, as a long-time fan, there was a slight sting. The absence of powerhouse tracks like “Ready to Fall,” “Audience of One,” and “Give It All” left a bittersweet reminder that some of the most iconic moments had been left off the stage. Even so, the high-octane energy from the rest of the set more than made up for it, with every song sending shockwaves through the crowd.
Tim McIlrath was a force of nature, tearing up the Harbour stage with relentless energy, charging from one side to the other, and even leaping onto the barricade to get up close and personal with the crowd. Every moment felt invigorating, as lucky fans were treated to intimate interactions they’ll never forget. And it wasn’t just Tim, guitarist Zach Blair was an absolute showstopper. He was a whirlwind of excitement, constantly engaging with the audience, raising his hand in triumph, and setting off waves of ecstatic screams from fans. The connection between band and crowd was undeniable, creating unforgettable moments that lit up the entire venue.
The night came to an explosive close with the thunderous “Savior,” and it was nothing short of a bombshell. As the final notes of the track reverberated through the venue, the room was vibrating with raw emotion. Vancouver sent Rise Against off in a sea of applause and cheers, acknowledging the sheer power of their synergetic performance. Being part of this unforgettable spectacle, from the fiery sets of L.S. Dunes and Cloud Nothings to the explosive energy of the main act, was an honor. Rise Against in Vancouver wasn’t just a show, it was a punk-rock celebration, a cathartic release, and like everyone in the crowd, I couldn’t have asked for a better night
