Arthur Hill kicked off the night. The London-based artist has been steadily building a following online, but this tour stop had an extra bit of sentiment behind it—it was his final show opening for Ruel. Midway through his set, during his song Lily, Ruel surprised the crowd by walking onstage to play the role of “Lily” in the song, a moment that got a huge reaction from the audience. A headliner making an appearance during the opener’s set is something I’ve never seen before, but it was a pretty effective way to get the crowd riled up.
I went into the night completely new to Arthur Hill’s music, but he’s been on repeat in my car ever since. His songs have everything I’m looking for in music I can obsess over—that perfect mix of catchy melodies and beats that make them easy to get hooked on. Even though I came into the show not knowing who Arthur Hill was, he definitely made an impression I haven’t forgotten since.
