We Are Story Tellers
Silverstein celebrated 25 years as a band on Saturday night in Montréal at Le Olympia, closing out the first leg of their North American tour alongside Thursday, Arms Length, and Split Chain. A nearly packed Olympia made for an incredibly busy night filled with great music.
Kicking off the night was the UK’s Split Chain, a band that has been making waves across the globe over the past year. Their unique blend of post-hardcore, shoegaze, and nu-metal brought high energy to the stage, instantly igniting the crowd. Fans were dancing and moshing, fully embracing the intensity of their performance. It was clear that Split Chain made the most of their first North American tour, and their enthusiasm was greatly appreciated by the audience.
Toronto natives Arms Length took the stage next, just days after announcing their signing with Pure Noise Records. After witnessing their live performance, it was evident why they earned the deal. The crowd immediately connected with them, singing along passionately—especially during what the band jokingly referred to as a “country song,” where they encouraged fans to chant “haw” in response to their “yee.” As a fan of their track “No Sleep,” I was thrilled to hear it live, along with their brand-new song “Funny Face.” Their set was engaging and heartfelt, making for an overall great performance.
Formed in 1997, Thursday has been a staple of the post-hardcore scene for 27 years. As soon as I saw them on this tour lineup, I knew I couldn’t miss their set. Even after all these years, their energy on stage remains electrifying. A special surprise came when Wade McNeil of Alexisonfire and Black Lungs filled in on guitar, adding an extra layer of excitement to their performance.
In an unexpected turn of events, their set was temporarily interrupted when the venue’s fire alarm went off, forcing the show to pause. After the fire department arrived and cleared the situation, the band returned to the stage for two final songs, ensuring they ended their performance with a bang. Despite the interruption, witnessing these legends perform was an unforgettable experience.
Twenty-five years is an impressive milestone, especially for a band that tours as extensively as Silverstein. This was my fourth time seeing them live, and once again, they outdid themselves. They opened their set with a touching video recap of their 25-year journey before launching into an explosive performance. The crowd erupted, with fans crowd-surfing, moshing, and singing along to every word.
To celebrate the occasion, Silverstein delivered an incredible 20-song set, closing with a heartfelt acoustic encore of their hit “My Heroine.” Between the confetti cannons, the wild energy of the audience, and the band’s outstanding performance, it was a night to remember.
Silverstein proved once again why they remain a force in the scene after all these years.
