We Are Story Tellers
Snow Patrol in Brooklyn, New York delivered an unforgettable performance, blending nostalgic hits and deep cuts with Sorcha Richardson’s indie charm.
Sorcha Richardson opened up the show. An indie folk singer-songwriter hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Richardson performed a set blending subtle elements of rock and pop while remaining grounded in her indie folk roots. During her set, she sang the title track from her 2022 album Smile Like An Idiot, which she noted as a love letter to Dublin—a city she returned to after living in New York City. This narrative was reflected in her live band, featuring Irish bassist Ben Bix and “Frankie from Queens” on drums, who wore a “New York” cap—perhaps a nod to Richardson’s past in the city. Between songs, Richardson shared a humorous moment from a recent performance, where an audience member remarked, “She was great. She is going to be the next big thing,” unaware she was speaking to the artist herself. Richardson simply replied, “I will be sure to let her know.” Richardson’s heartfelt performance and storytelling connected effortlessly with the audience, setting an intimate tone for the evening.
The venue went black as the heart illustration from the album cover lit up the back screen, followed by the text “Brooklyn, NYC” and “Snow Patrol” as the band took the stage. The band kicked things off by taking the sold out crowd back to 2008, performing “Take Back The City.”
The tour follows after the March release of an extended edition of their 2024 album “The Forest Is The Path.” Snow Patrol’s show was immersed in the album’s visual world, while the setlist was filled with a majority of deep cuts from their earlier records. “This is dedicated to all the lyrics I’ve ever forgotten… it’s a lot,” frontman Gary Lightbody said before going into fan favorite song “Run” from their 2004 album “Final Straw.” The crowd assisted Gary as they sang along to every word, all the way into the final bridge lyrics “I’ll be right beside you dear.” This along with other moments of the show was a true testament to the fans who have stayed beside the band all these years, even now still selling out shows.
“Chasing Cars,” released in 2006 on Eyes Open, stands as Snow Patrol’s most commercially successful single. The song has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, solidifying its place among the platform’s most-streamed tracks of all time. It was also named the most-played song on UK radio during the 21st century, according to PPL. Boosted by prominent placements in shows like Grey’s Anatomy, the track became a slow-burning hit that achieved platinum and multi-platinum certifications worldwide. Nearly two decades later, its continued streaming dominance underscores the lasting impact of the band’s signature sound. The evening reached its emotional peak during “Chasing Cars,” as the audience united in a truly pure and unforgettable moment.
Snow Patrol’s performance was a powerful reminder of the emotional resonance they’ve built over decades. From anthems that defined the 2000s to deep cuts cherished by longtime fans, the band crafted a set that felt both intimate and cinematic. Gary Lightbody’s honest stage presence and the crowd’s unwavering energy created a space where nostalgia and the present collided. Snow Patrol’s music continues to evolve without losing its heart.
