What started your musical journey?
An ad in the local newspaper that my mom spotted when I was 13 years old. It was a local singing contest and a summer camp for singers. My mom is an artist as well and always had an intuition for talent. She heard that I could sing and so she pushed me to audition. I got it ! That was the first of a series of many shows.
What are some of the more out of the box sounds that have influenced your music?
World music ! My music has been influenced by a lot of Latin music, especially Mexican Ranchera. I think it can show in my vocal style, mostly. I also studied traditional Persian music for 2 years.
How did growing up influence your direction in music?
I was a free, happy and very fulfilled kid. My parents allowed me to explore and do the things I liked. I got into theater when I was young and had a thing for performing, which I am sure contributed to my love for music. It was woven in my soul, I was attracted to it and my parents, growing up, were really attentive to that and supported me when they could.
Can you tell us a bit about the story behind your new piece “Love Train” and how it came to be?
In all honesty, it kind of just came out like that. When I wrote the song acoustically, I already have a good feel of what the arrangements and the style is going to be. When I sat there with my guitar and myself, that’s just how it flowed out and no matter what I could think of doing it with, I felt that this was how it needed to sound like. I knew it would be hard to fit in a box, but songs have a life of their own and Love Train wanted to sound like it does. Now it’s out in the world, doing its thing.
