What started your musical journey?

An ad in the local newspaper that my mom spotted when I was 13 years old. It was a local singing contest and a summer camp for singers. My mom is an artist as well and always had an intuition for talent. She heard that I could sing and so she pushed me to audition. I got it ! That was the first of a series of many shows.

What are some of the more out of the box sounds that have influenced your music?

World music ! My music has been influenced by a lot of Latin music, especially Mexican Ranchera. I think it can show in my vocal style, mostly. I also studied traditional Persian music for 2 years.

How did growing up influence your direction in music?

I was a free, happy and very fulfilled kid. My parents allowed me to explore and do the things I liked. I got into theater when I was young and had a thing for performing, which I am sure contributed to my love for music. It was woven in my soul, I was attracted to it and my parents, growing up, were really attentive to that and supported me when they could.

Can you tell us a bit about the story behind your new piece “Love Train” and how it came to be?

In all honesty, it kind of just came out like that. When I wrote the song acoustically, I already have a good feel of what the arrangements and the style is going to be. When I sat there with my guitar and myself, that’s just how it flowed out and no matter what I could think of doing it with, I felt that this was how it needed to sound like. I knew it would be hard to fit in a box, but songs have a life of their own and Love Train wanted to sound like it does. Now it’s out in the world, doing its thing.

Do you have any unique processes you do when putting together music?

I don’t think my process is unique, no. However, I feel like my best songs ‘’come to me’’ somehow. For example, I can be in the shower and the melody, the concept, and the ideas just start pouring into my mind. I then get an urge to sit down and I write the song. I’m usually not as taken by what I create when I discipline myself to do it, but I can tell that I learn a lot about songwriting when I do.

How do you think your music has evolved since you first started out?

The format has become more digestible, a little less all over the place. I have learnt to write according to conventions of pop, country and soul music. I think I am better at writing interesting, compelling stories now. For me, it’s about finding the right balance between deeply personal and genuinely universal matters.

What is the most interesting thing you have learned about yourself so far?

I feel the best when I focus on gratitude. That is true no matter what I do or where I am and it absolutely applies to this music journey.

What was your first impression finding out about your amazing award nominations for 2025 Country Music Alberta Awards?

It’s an awesome recognition by a community of amazingly talented people. My Alberta family is full of people who have given this Quebec boy a chance at performing, songwriting, recording, and more. The CMAB room is full of people who let me sleep on their couch, record at their studio and gave me my first shot at singing in Alberta. I am forever humbled by them.

What is one thing you are most proud of accomplishing so far in your career?

Staying true to the values of my family, mainly being a people-person first. I am surrounded by amazing humans and, despite all the years and the roller coasters, those people are still what I value most. I hope to never lose sight of that.

What is one thing you think should be asked more in an interview that isn't asked enough?

I’m a nerd so I like very niche and specific questions on Lord of the rings, world religions and the occult arts, linguistics, etc. Try me !

Who plays you in the movie of your life?

Siiiick question ! I never got this one before. I was told I kind of look like Jim Morrison and Heath Ledger. But they’re too talented and handsome to play me. And they’re both dead so we have a problem here.

What do you hope fans take away from your music?

I hope they have fun like in the good old days. Dress weird, dance until every single one of them bones hurt.

What motivates you to keep walking down the musical road?

It’s just a call that I keep hearing. I don’t know what else I can do, man. I’m a music man. That’s it.

Last but not least, are you happy?

Very happy. I am blessed with love, health, family, freedom and many, many gifts. I love my mama. My old man too.
