Spotlight: Violet Night Is the Band You Need to Hear Before Everyone Else

Spotlight: Violet Night shines on a band that knows how to mix heartfelt storytelling with atmospheric soundscapes. Their music pulls you in from the first note and keeps you wrapped in its glow. With every performance, they create a space that feels both intimate and epic, connecting deeply with fans who crave honesty in every lyric.

For fans meeting Violet Night for the first time — how do you describe the band’s sound in your own words?

It’s hard to pin down because our music really lives in peaks and valleys. There’s light and shade. Some songs feel massive, like they were born to be sung in a stadium, while others feel more intimate, like they’re meant for late-night drives when the world is quiet.

Take us back to the early days — what was the spark that started Violet Night?

I (Connor) was in another band at the time, but the other members didn’t want to continue. I was about to start a solo project, but our former keyboard player and I ended up starting the band together in his basement. He was drawn to film scoring, and I had this vision that together we could build something bigger. Even though he’s stepped back from being in the band, he’s still involved behind the scenes and remains one of my closest friends. From the start, what drove us was the desire to create a space of inspiration and unity — the same way our favourite artists had done for us. There’s something powerful about finding your identity in the music you love. In a way, the bands you grow up with shape who you are. That’s what we wanted VIOLET NIGHT to be for people.

Was there a defining “we’re really doing this” moment in your career so far?

There are small victories all the time, and we’re always grateful for them. But we don’t dwell too long. We never want to get complacent. The focus has always been on moving forward, pushing harder, and aiming higher.

The new album ROSSO CORSA is finally here! What’s the story behind the name and concept?

The concept is layered — like the cake on the cover. ROSSO CORSA means “racing red,” the shade Ferrari used in the 1930s that became iconic. The song FERRARI RED set the tone for the whole record, which is why it opens the album. Without giving too much away, that track plays with juxtapositions — mortality, class disparity, the absurdity of status, existentialism, life, love, finding meaning. The glamorous and the tragic. Marie Antoinette once said “let them eat cake” to dismiss the poor, and that same idea shows up on our cover: a cake that’s both celebration and satire. The irony is, I’m allergic to that specific cake — it would actually make me sick — which adds another layer of meaning if you sit with it. Every song ties into the concept in its own way, but part of the fun is letting listeners piece that together themselves.

How did the creative process for ROSSO CORSA differ from your previous releases?

This time, I wanted to make a true no-skips record — bigger, warmer, more alive than anything we’ve done before. It’s our most cohesive work conceptually, but also the most beautiful. I’ve never been more proud of something in my life. Every song belongs, nothing feels like filler. It’s a journey from start to finish. I feel like I’ve grown so much as a songwriter, and our team has grown so much as producers. We all just locked in together, with enough contrast and pushback to create something magical. It felt like the planets aligned.

Which track means the most to you personally, and why?

Hearing I DON’T WANNA LEAVE THE PARTY EARLY for the first time in my car, I cried. That song has my late grandparents’ voices in it (they’re credited as co-writers)— a candid conversation between them. It’s not about leaving a party; it’s about leaving the world too soon and not wanting to miss out on life. GEMINI MOON also holds a special place for me. It feels like the sound of an emotion I could never put into words. And then there’s FERRARI RED— which closes with a meow from my cat Willie, who’s passed now. He was like my son. Knowing his voice is immortalized in that song means the world to me. Maybe legends really never die.

Were there any unexpected influences that shaped the album’s sound?

Not really. Fans have told us this album feels like we’ve truly found our sound, and I’d agree. We weren’t chasing anyone else — what you hear is just what came out of us. Of course, it’s built on everything we’ve ever listened to, every experience we’ve had, but at the end of the day, it’s authentically ours.

When you’re writing music, what usually comes first — the lyrics, the melody, or the mood?

It changes every time. No two songs start the same way. VAMPIRE began with the chorus — it just came out of my mouth while walking around my house, and I knew instantly it was something special. With FERRARI RED, I remember laughing while writing it because it was so raw and brutally honest. When a song feels like it arrives as a gift, fully formed, I just try to get out of the way and capture it. I think songs are sent. I always consider them a gift from somewhere up above.

How do you and the rest of the band balance creative input while keeping a cohesive vision?

Most of the creative vision starts with me, and then I bring it to the people I trust in our circle. I’ll get feedback when I need perspective, but ultimately I go with my gut. If an idea doesn’t feel 100% right, I’ll either keep working it or toss it, no matter what anyone else says. I think the reason it works is because everyone respects that process, and when I do open things up for collaboration, the input makes the songs stronger.

Was there a song on the album that almost didn’t make it but ended up being a favourite?

GEMINI MOON was on the fence for a while, and I DON’T WEANNA LEAVE THE PARTY EARLY wasn’t even planned — we tracked it on the very last day in the studio. Both ended up being essential.

What is one thing you think should be asked in an interview that isn’t asked enough?

Maybe not enough people ask why we’re doing this. For us, the music is about more than songs — it’s about creating a space where people feel seen, understood, and less alone. That’s always been the heart of it.

What’s one fan interaction you’ll never forget?

A young fan from the U.S. once told us, “your music saved my life.” If all of this only ever led to that one moment, it would still be worth it.

If ROSSO CORSA had to be paired with a specific food or drink, what would it be?

I’d say a glass of red wine and a slice of cake you’re not supposed to eat. Sweet, celebratory, maybe even indulgent — but with a sting underneath. The irony here as that in the band – neither of us drinks alcohol, and this only furthers the notion of juxtapositions.

You’re stuck in an elevator with three other artists — who’s in there with you and what happens?

David Bowie, Chris Martin, and Gerard Way. Honestly, I think we’d just end up talking about life and art until someone remembered to press the button.

If you weren’t making music, what do you think you’d be doing right now?

I can’t even imagine that reality. Music isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am. So I won’t picture a world without it.

What are some of the next Milestones you want to hit?

Headlining a full U.S./UK tour and selling it out. ROSSO CORSA going gold. Playing SNL. Headlining Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza, Madison Square Garden. Those are all on the list. We’ll get there. See you soon.
