We Are Story Tellers
St. Vincent In Vancouver was an absolutely wild ride as Annie Clark, known as St. Vincent, delivered a powerhouse performance in her All Born Screaming Tour. Before the evening began, the atmosphere was charged with an intense and palpable energy, as fans of all ages eagerly lined up around the block, brimming with anticipation. Having been well-acquainted with Vincent’s bold and dynamic discography, I shared in the crowd’s excitement, eagerly awaiting what would unfold at the sold-out Orpheum Theatre. This tour was in celebration of the release of Vincent’s latest album “All Born Screaming”, and the night launched with a set by Pennsylavanian Singer/Songwriter Eartheater (Trinity Vigorsky).
In a surprising twist that contrasted sharply with the anticipated rock edge of St. Vincent, Eartheater delivered a transcendent performance that became a standout. While the crowd had braced themselves for a rock-centric experience, they were instead captivated by a thirty minute set of Dance/Electronic Alternative tracks. Despite this being my first exposure to Eartheater, I found myself engrossed and jotting down song titles like “Crushing”, “Face in the Moon”, and “Airbone Ashes” to revisit on my drive home. A particularly memorable moment was Eartheater’s stripped-down rendition of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey”, which ignited a large burst of enthusiasm. Overall, Eartheater’s sophisticated charm and unexpectedly powerful performance won over the crowd and had people hungry for what’s to come.
From the very first moments of the performance, it was clear that we were in for an extraordinary experience. The show began with an air of mastery that set the tone for the evening. Enthusiastic fans of all ages could barely contain their excitement, the anticipation was visible. As the stage illuminated to a powerful figure standing in a strikingly lit archway, her commanding presence signaled the start of an unforgettable journey. With a captivating presence and aura of confidence, she set the stage for what would be an incredible night of rock.
St. Vincent kicked off the night with her new track “Reckless”, setting an electrifying tone from the very start. Right from the beginning, it was clear that she was a formidable force, commanding the audience’s attention with her powerful prowess. The dynamic and flawless precision of her guitar playing was complemented by her mesmerizing stage presence. Vincent’s performance was a stunning display of movement and dance, characterized by a blend of raw energy and unpredictability. Her dramatic and sometimes imposing movement added a layer of intensity that created an experience that was both captivating and unmissable.
With an 18 track setlist, there wasn’t a moment of disappointment as Vincent’s discography was on full display. Each song was thoughtfully selected to highlight Vincent’s different facets of her musical journey. The setlist featured a masterful blend of beloved songs “Los Ageless”, “Cheerleader” and “Surgeon”, alongside new tracks “Flea”, “Big Time Nothing” and the standout smash hit “Broken Man”, which was a personal highlight. The meticulous setlist delivered an unforgettable performance, transforming it into a St. Vincent fan’s dream. The relentless action and flawless execution ensured the entire performance was exceptional, beginning to end.
The concert was filled with countless unforgettable moments, each adding to the brilliance of the evening. One standout highlight occurred when a banner descended from the Orpheums’ ceiling, showcasing Vincent’s rose flag, which was met with cheers. Another moment was Mark Guiliana’s stellar drum solo during the performance of “Cheerleader”. However, the most memorable highlight was undoubtedly St. Vincent’s extraordinary connection with the audience. Throughout the performance, she skillfully engaged with the crowd, making poignant eye contact and singing directly to individual members, creating a personal experience. The culmination of this intimate interaction occurred during “New York”, where Vincent ventured into the audience to take photos with fans, solidifying the night as a truly unforgettable night.
As the final notes of St. Vincent’s closing track “All Born Screaming” echoed through the venue, audiences erupted as the night stood as a testament to her unparalleled artistry and magnetic stage presence. From electrifying performance to the seamless band synergy, each moment was a masterclass in musicianship. As the audience met Vincent with rapturous applause, it was clear St. Vincent had not only delivered an unforgettable performance, but also firmed her place as a truly visionary artist.
A heartfelt thank you to St. Vincent In Vancouver for delivering a powerful performance. Your remarkable talent and captivating presence has left a lasting impression on our beautiful city. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to experience your exceptional talent once again in the near future.
