We Are Story Tellers

STILL WOOZY IN VANCOUVER

California based Indie/Alternative artist Still Woozy (Sven Eric Gamsky) embarked on his aptly named  “LoveSeat” Tour, based on his newly released album Loveseat. We were lucky enough to catch Woozy’s first of two sold out nights at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC. Before the show’d even started there was quite an ample turn out for the opener, Gus Dapperton (Brendan Patrick Rice).

GUS DAPPERTON

Prior to the show I was quite unfamiliar with Dapperton’s work but as he arrived on stage to rapturous applause, I knew I was in for something special. Dapperton’s performance was quite methodical as what began as a slightly slower tempo gradually crescendoed into an awe-inspiring performance of infectiously groovy pop and indie tracks. One notable moment near the end of the set had both Dapperton and his sister, keyboard player Ruby Amadelle dance together, sending the audience into a frenzy and preparing them for what’s to come.

STILL WOOZY

Exploding onto the stage, Woozy’s surrounded by a set containing a flower filled keyboard and background with inflatable flowers. Even with summer heat impacting the venue, it didn’t stop Woozy from constantly moving around both sides of the stage, jumping down to get intimate with the audience or just generally dancing with velocity. Performing an array of hits such as “Window”, “Habit”, “That’s Life”  mixed with new tracks from Loveseat “Again”, “Lemon” and “All Your Life”, Woozy had the audience living on cloud 9. A large part what made the set incredible was the synergy between Woozy and his band. There was never a moment where the bassist or guitarist felt as though they were just back-up, as like Woozy they’d constantly interact with the audience or have moments of playing with or beside Woozy. In a comedic moment closer to the end of the set, another member from Woozy’s group ran on stage and began dancing in a way that can only be described as provocative.

Woozy’s most popular song “Goodie Bag” was chosen for the final song of the show and had many audience members singing along to every word. Once the song was over, an eruption of applause could be felt throughout the entire venue. Still Woozy proved to me he’s an unmissable act and If I could choose only one word to describe the performance I’d witnessed, it’d be euphoric.
