We Are Story Tellers
Suki Waterhouse in Indianapolis was a captivating night full of ethereal energy, engaging moments, and crowd connection. The show, held at Old National Centre, opened with an electrifying sequence of “Gateway Drug,” “Supersad,” and “OMG,” each more energetic than the last. The first three songs, captured from the photo pit, showcased Waterhouse’s natural stage presence—especially during “OMG,” where she ran across the stage, effortlessly embodying the song’s energy. The stage setup, featuring a glistening disco ball above her and lush plants scattered around, was nothing short of magical. Paired with phenomenal lighting, it created a dreamlike atmosphere that matched the ethereal vibe of Waterhouse’s performance.
The moment Waterhouse stepped out onto the stage, I knew it was going to be a special night. Suki Waterhouse’s discography is nothing short of unique. I became familiarized with her music when it was announced that she was opening for Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour in London. Once I started listening to her songs, I couldn’t stop. Going into the show, I knew exactly what I hoped for: a performance of “Brutally” and “To Get You.” The crowd, which was primarily women, erupted in excitement during “My Fun” when Waterhouse unexpectedly removed her tank top, marking a first for her live shows. One of the evening’s highlights came when Waterhouse revealed that “To Get You” is her personal favorite song, which made the performance even more special, and fans felt the weight of her words as the song unfolded. Since “To Get You” was a bucket list song of mine to hear live, I felt fulfilled as I listened to the story of someone doing anything for love.
Similarly, “Big Love” took on a new dimension when Waterhouse shared that it was inspired by a random girl she met in a bar—a tender reminder of how music often springs from unexpected connections. The crowd joined in during the chorus, chanting “who’s gonna call big big love,” transforming the song into a shared moment between Waterhouse and the audience. During that moment, and still even now, I wonder if that is a shared experience across her other live shows. And I wonder what other tour traditions have emerged.
Suki Waterhouse in Indianapolis was a masterclass in balance—capturing the joyful playfulness of her career and the deeply emotional moments of her music. From the crowd interactions to the meaningful performances, it was clear that Waterhouse’s connection with her audience is one of her greatest strengths. Her ability to turn every song into a deeply personal experience made the night unforgettable for all in attendance. Alongside her titles of model and actress, the labels of storyteller and writer must now be added to the list. If you haven’t had a chance to see her live yet, you’ve still got time!
