The man himself, Tech N9ne, was making his way to Ottawa for this leg of his tour. This is one I wasn’t going to miss. I wasn’t able to hit up his last show and had to make sure I was here this time. Tech brought along longtime friend and collaborator Krizz Kaliko to make for a killer show.
The Kansas city native is best known for being the on top of the mountain when it comes to independent operations. Tech N9ne co-founded Strange Music with partner Travis O’Guin. Strange Music is coined as a leaner, stealthier, Midwestern version of Cash Money in an article by Forbes magazine.
Tech N9ne gets his name for his bullet like speed and rhyming derived from the handgun of similar name.
Algonquin was playing host for the night and in typical fashion they had everything on point. Early on before the show, select fans who paid for meet and greets got to stop in and spend some time with Tech. They got some photos or autographs. One thing I will say is there is next to no artists I have seen provide so much content for a VIP package compared to what Tech does. You truly leave with some value and some awesome merch on top of getting to spend a few minutes with the man himself.
Like most nights, some Ottawa locals are given the task to start out the night. They had to make sure the crowd was in the right frame of mind. Keenan and NewLove started out the night followed but the boys from Sudden Movement and rounded out by Kenny Kingcon. This may not have been the right show for Keenan and NewLove but they did their thing on stage and got the crowd feeling it. Sudden Movement got to play one of the largest stages they have ever played. It suited the boys nicely as they were able to move and interact with the crowd. Kenny Kingcon just fit right in nicely with the group, having a very similar feel as Tech himself with chopper style, fast paced rhyming.
Krizz Kaliko hit the stage next. This man shows his seasoned side by getting the fans going right from the get go. He has such good control over his craft and it goes to show when he hits the stage to rocks out with the fans. He is a perfect person to set the stage for Tech and you can tell why they are so tight.
Tech hit the stage and just went off. Him and Krizz rocked out even having a sense of some choreography playing off each other. They had some tandem movements and almost dance numbers. Every fan seemed to go nuts and enjoy the show the whole way through.
End of the night I found out the Tech was actually sick the last few days. It just goes to show how dedicated he is. He still put on that caliber of a killer show, even being sick like he was.
It was awesome to get to meet him after the show. I can’t wait until the next time he is in town for sure.
