We Are Story Tellers

Teddy Swims & Diamond Cafe in Laval, Quebec

Swims celebrated a completed quarter leg of tour at Place Bell last night and it was full of cheers, tears, and dance.

DIAMOND CAFE WARMS THE CROWD UP

Fellow Warner music signee Diamond Cafe was welcomed to Laval’s Place Bell stage before Teddy Swims. Frontman Tristan Thompson and his two bandmates played songs from his full length album Diamond Cuts, released two years ago, and ones from his recent EP Fantasy Real. Diamond Cafe’s set was short but sweet, leaving the crowd anticipated to see what he does next.

TEDDY SWIMS SWIMS IN LOVE

The last time Teddy Swims performed in Montreal was on Osheaga’s main stage in the heat of August, and the time before that was at Beanfield Theatre. Swims was met with love every time. On Saturday night, ten thousand people – in all kinds of age groups – were in Laval’s arena to see the one and only. The stage was hidden with a drape illuminating the singer’s name while the tour crew did some final touches on the stage. A few moments later guitar blasted the speakers and the curtain fell, revealing Swims, his band Freak Freely, and his background vocalists. To begin with, Swims stood on a platform, singing “Not Your Man” and was met with love and cheers. They continued by playing recent releases such as “Apple Juice” and “Hammer to the Heart” from his projects I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy.

After a few more songs and teddy bear gifts, tears rolled down Swims face from the overwhelming amount of love he received. He confessed “y’all are making a grown man cry!”, and “these are happy tears but since I’m already crying, let’s turn them into sad ones”. He was met with even more cheers until he cried again. Swims also sang some older gems like “911” and “Bed on Fire”. Speaking of older gems, Swims played a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You” chosen by the help of Teddy’s jukebox and the audience. Before that, the background screen flooded with iconic album covers replaced with teddy bears as the subject including Blondie’s Parallel Lines and Dr Dre’s The Chronic

A Night to Remember

After Swims and co left the stage, orange confetti continued to linger in the air and an ABBA song played through the speakers. The crowd danced for one final song before leaving Place Bell. Whether it was your first, second, or fifth time seeing Swims live, his music brought everyone together at Place Bell. No matter the age, music unites.
