We Are Story Tellers
This week, longtime rockers The Pineapple Thief stopped in Montreal for the first time in five years during their “It Leads to This” tour. Joining them once again in Montreal was Randy McStine, another talented rocker who has worked with the likes of Porcupine Tree and Sound of Contact.
The night started on a slower note but an incredible one. Randy McStine, a multi-talented artist, was also the opener for The Pineapple Thief the last time they played the Beanfield Theatre in 2019. He made great use of his exceptional production skills, masterfully using loop pedals to create amazing sounds with just him and a guitar. During his set, he mentioned that he had just released a new album called Mutual Hallucinations. He made sure to perform some standout songs from the album. The rest of his set was filled with intricate acoustic guitar solos and impressive vocal performances. McStine proved to be a great musician and an excellent opening act for the night.
This prog rock band, formed in the ’90s in England, delivered a captivating performance filled with psychedelic vocals and thrilling instrumental breakdowns. The five-piece group played for nearly two hours, showcasing a collection of songs spanning their impressive career. I didn’t think I knew who they were going into the show, but after listening to their music for a few days beforehand, I recognized some songs, including Election Day, which they performed early in their set at the Beanfield Theatre.
Before the show, the packed house was politely asked not to film with their phones and to simply enjoy the music and live in the moment. It was a refreshing request, especially since so many shows nowadays are dominated by screens.
The night was absolutely fantastic. An easy-going evening of progressive rock music set the perfect atmosphere for everyone in attendance.
