We Are Story Tellers
Montreal’s metalcore fans were treated to an electrifying night as The Plot In You took the stage for their sold-out show. With a stacked lineup featuring Acres, Boundaries, and Hold Absence, the night was a rollercoaster of heavy breakdowns, soaring melodies, and a crowd that brought an intensity fitting for such an event.
Kicking things off was Acres, a UK metalcore band that immediately set the tone for the night. With a setlist that blended old favorites with fresh material, they knew exactly how to get the crowd involved. Their decision to play older tracks paid off, as fans eagerly sang along, giving the set a communal energy. The UK metalcore scene just seems to have a unique vibe, and Acres proved that once again. They also introduced their new song, Bloodlust, which was well-received, further hyping the audience for the night ahead.
Next up was Boundaries, an American metalcore band that cranked up the intensity. Their performance was packed with raw energy, and the crowd responded in kind. One of the standout elements of their set was their drummer also serving as the clean vocalist—a rare and impressive feat in live metalcore performances. Meanwhile, the bassist was a force of nature, hyping the audience with an unstoppable energy that kept the pit alive.
For many, Hold Absence stole the show. Another UK-based act, they brought a different dynamic compared to the heavier bands before them. With a sound reminiscent of Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens, their set leaned into emotion and melody rather than pure aggression. A particularly memorable moment was when someone in the crowd threw a rubber chicken onto the stage, directed at the vocalist—a bizarre yet hilarious interaction. But beyond the humor, what stood out most was how the audience sang their hearts out, with the vocalist frequently passing the mic to the crowd. Interestingly, due to Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, the band had to print their merch locally instead of bringing it with them, a small but telling reminder of the behind-the-scenes challenges touring bands face.
By the time The Plot In You took the stage, anticipation had reached its peak. They opened their set in dramatic fashion—smoke covered the stage as a jukebox-style radio played static-laced weather reports about storms in Montreal. Then, the chaos erupted. From the very first song, they delivered fan favorites that had the entire venue screaming along.
Crowd surfers took to the air, mosh pits formed in an instant, and the energy never let up. Injuries? Expected. Pure catharsis? Guaranteed. The band’s ability to transition seamlessly from melodic clean vocals to gut-wrenching screams was nothing short of incredible. Even for those who might not consider metalcore their primary genre, The Plot In You put on a show that was impossible not to get swept up in. At one point, they encouraged first-time crowd surfers to take the leap—an invitation that many eagerly accepted. The light show, featuring chaotic individual beams slicing through the smoke, only added to the immersive, high-energy experience.
From start to finish, this was a night of passion, energy, and unforgettable performances. Each band brought something unique, whether it was Acres’ singalongs, Boundaries’ raw intensity, Hold Absence’s emotional connection, or The Plot In You’s sheer, controlled chaos. Metalcore nights in Montreal always deliver, but this one will stand out for a long time.
