We Are Story Tellers
Tim Heidecker’s Live in Vancouver was an unforgettable rollercoaster of surprises! Hailing from Allentown, PA, Tim and his “Very Good Band” brought the heat on the Slipping Away Tour, rocking a sold-out Hollywood Theatre. As a die-hard fan of his iconic work from Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Beef House, On Cinema, and Office Hours, I couldn’t wait to see what chaos he’d unleash—and trust me, it did not disappoint!
I knew Tim Heidecker had a big fanbase, but the line at The Hollywood Theatre was insane. It stretched for blocks, buzzing with fans quoting Tim & Eric classics like “It’s free real estate” and hyping up the Office Hours epodcast. When the doors finally opened at 7pm, the energy was electric—hundreds of eager fans flooded in, ready for the night to begin.
Forget the usual opener—Tim Heidecker flipped the script. At 7:30pm sharp, the lights dimmed and a screen flashed “All rise for the new American National Anthem.” What followed was a hilarious, glazed version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” with the whole crowd laughing and singing along. Then, an iMessage screen popped up showing Tim saying he was too scared to come on stage and needed the audience’s encouragement. Vancouver delivered! With shadows creeping in the red-lit venue, Tim and The Very Good Band stormed the stage, blasting into Well’s Running Dry—and the crowd went wild. The synergy was instant. Between Tim’s stories, his off-beat comedy, and the music, the night was pure electricity!
I’ve been a die-hard Tim Heidecker fan for 12 years, ever since Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie—a wild mix of bizarre, hilarious, and downright disgusting… needless to say; it had me hooked. From there, I dove into his other works, and when he announced his move into music, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But with his unique blend of folk, Tim’s musical style clicks. With 8 albums under his belt, including his latest, Slipping Away, which the tour was in celebration of. Tim’s proven he’s not just a comedian anymore—but a legit force in the music scene.
Halfway through the show, Tim Heidecker brought out the real “Opening Act”—the one and only Kyle Mooney! Fresh off writing and directing Y2K, one of 2024’s top comedies, and a former SNL cast member, Vancouver gave him a raucous welcome. Introduced simply as “Todd” by Heidecker, Mooney dove into a bizarre, offbeat in-character set that had the crowd howling, perfectly matching his unique comedy style. It was chaotic, but perfect.
We can’t forget The Very Good Band—and they really were that good. Eliana Athayde on bass and vocals, Josh Adams on drums, Mikael Jorgensen on keys, and Catfish Connor Gallaher shredding on guitar and pedal steel brought nonstop energy and flawless synergy to the stage. Together, they powered through 19 tracks, including hits like “Trippin’,” “Dark Days,” “Property,” and “Hot Piss,” each one setting the crowd on fire. But the real personal surprise? Hearing “Lord Cain” from Cainthology—the crowd erupted in laughter and cheers, just as expected!
Tim Heidecker in Vancouver ended with a bang—Trump’s Private Pilot brought the house down! While the show steered clear of politics, this hilarious jab at Donald Trump had the crowd roaring with applause. Honestly, it couldn’t have been a better night. As I left the venue, fans were reliving their favourite moments and grinning from ear to ear. It was a night to remember—one that’ll stick with everyone lucky enough to experience it, and I hope more people get the chance in the future!
I want to thank Tim Heidecker’s team for allowing us to experience and capture the night. If you’re interested in finding out more about Tim or catch him with The Very Good Band, feel free to visit his website here: https://www.timheidecker.com/
