Under the glowing string lights of Quartyard, indie-folk trio Trousdale delivered a night brimming with pitch perfect harmonies and playful banter. Sharing the stage with dynamic openers Nia Ashleigh and Buffchick, the show felt more like a backyard gathering of best friends than a formal concert, perfect for a lovely Wednesday night in San Diego.
Nia Ashleigh and Buffchick opened the evening with a refreshingly honest set that paired bedroom-pop melodies with R&B vocal runs that stopped the crowd mid-sip. Flipping the mic back and forth, both of the New Jersey natives touched on self-worth, heartbreak and the strange magic of growing up.
By the time Trousdale stepped onstage, the crowd was buzzing. The LA-based trio — comprised of Georgia Greene, Quinn D’Andrea, and Lauren Jones — first met while studying music at USC and quickly became known for their airtight harmonies and folk-pop songwriting that’s both lush and emotionally grounded.
Performing songs off their new album “Growing Pains” and a healthy dose of crowd favorites, the group seamlessly blended vocals in a bombastic and impressive fashion. Each member took turns leading, but the magic happened when their voices intertwined — rich, warm, and haunting in all the right moments. Tracks like “Point Your Finger” and “Any Day Now” drew cheers of recognition, while stripped-down ballads like “Wouldn’t Come Back” left the crowd hushed and swaying.
Halfway through the set, the trio pulled out a curveball that no one saw coming: a surprise Wicked medley. It started with the cheeky tension of “What Is This Feeling?”, complete with dramatic glances and musical theater-level delivery the led straight into “Popular”. But it was the finale — a goosebump-inducing, harmony-drenched take on “Defying Gravity” — that truly stunned the crowd. The vocals soared, the emotion hit, and for a few minutes, Quartyard felt like a Broadway stage under the stars. Cynthia Erivo would have been proud.
What sets Trousdale apart, aside from their celestial harmonies and impeccable chemistry, is how grounded and real they feel on stage. They laugh between songs, shout out the openers, and tell stories about songwriting and share the meaning behind lyrics. The evening with the band was truly was an exquisite experience. Fans won’t have to wait long to see this trio back in America’s FInest City — Trousdale will be back in San Diego on July 31st opening for Maren Morris at the Rady Shell.
