We Are Story Tellers
Usher In Vancouver was an invigorating night as one of R&B’s Kings brought his Past, Present, Future tour to Rogers Arena. Usher’s trip to Vancouver was his first in 10 years and I was lucky enough to catch the first of 2 sold-out nights. The energy was electric as couples filled the arena, ready for an unforgettable night. The show consisted of plenty of dance numbers, skits, roller skating, and of course steamy moments. Opening the night for Usher was DJ Mars.
As 8pm hit, DJ Mars kicked off the night with a throwback mix of 90’s and 00’s R&B classics, getting the millennial-heavy crowd singing and dancing. Hits from Lil Jon, Ludacris, Missy Elliott, and Busta Rhymes had everyone grooving. The highlight? Mars’ team selected 10 women from the crowd for a VIP-stage moment that had the arena buzzing.
The crowd went wild for the “Dance-off,” where the best contestants earned a spot on the VIP stage to watch the show. One standout moment had a woman unexpectedly dropped into the worm, stealing the spotlight and getting the entire arena roaring with applause. Overall, DJ Mars perfectly set the tone, but the inclusion of this “Dance-off” could come as questionable considering recent events.
As an AI countdown stated “roughly 2 minutes until arrival” the house lights went down and a bass boomed, signaling the moment we’ve been waiting for. Smoke filled the air as a figure began emerging from the stage. deafening screams and applause echoed through every inch of the arena. Wearing a black wide brim hat and black trench coat both covered in jewels, Usher Raymond IV has arrived.
As “Coming Home” blared through the speakers, Usher made his way to a center-stage platform, where a jaw-dropping visual of him controlling a laser lit up the arena. The energy soared as “Daddy’s Home” kicked in, with Usher and his backup dancers recreating iconic moves from the music video, it was an electrifying moment that had the crowd completely hooked!
The set consisted of an astonishing 36 tracks, if there was a hit fans were hoping to hear, it was definitely played. “My Boo,” “Caught Up,” “U Remind Me,” “Lovers and Friends,” “Confessions Pt II,” and of course “Yeah!” were a few of the many present. The tour was also in celebration of Usher’s latest album “Coming Home” and featured were “BIG,” “Good Good,” “Margiela,” and “I Am the Party”.
The night unfolded in thrilling chapters, mirroring Usher’s Past, Present, Future journey. Onstage video skits took us back to Usher’s younger self, dreaming of selling out arenas. Later, a powerful skit with a future version of Usher, reflecting on his legendary career, filled with triumphs and regrets, which added a deeper, emotional layer to the show. It was a mesmerizing blend of nostalgia and raw honesty that had the crowd captivated.
The night was packed with unforgettable moments, but one major highlight was Usher’s team of phenomenal dancers, whose flawless choreography left the crowd in awe. The ATL Roller Skate section—seen at last year’s Super Bowl—was pure magic, with Usher and his crew gliding across the stage with cinematic precision. Later, an intimate moment had Usher walk through the crowd, handing out cherries for couples to share. One woman stole the show when she eagerly snatched at her cherry like a piranha, sparking laughter and adding a fun, unexpected twist.
In the final moments of Usher In Vancouver, as he stood center stage to thank the crowd, a fan beside me threw a wad of “Usher dollars” toward him. Without missing a beat, Usher spotted the fan and blew them a kiss, as he continued his descent from the stage. It’ll be a moment the fan will never forget. That was just one of many unforgettable interactions that showcased Usher’s raw, magnetic presence. A true artist who gives everything to his audience, Usher’s Past, Present, Future tour left a lasting impression. After witnessing this electrifying performance, I can honestly say I’ll never miss an Usher show in Vancouver again.
We’d like to thank Usher and his team for the unbelievable night. If you’d like to catch any of the remaining nights of Usher’s tour or find more information on the artist, visit his website here: https://www.usherworld.com/
