We Are Story Tellers
Last week, Montreal had the privilege of witnessing heavy metal legends W.A.S.P performing their iconic debut album “One Alive”. The night was a nostalgic journey, featuring songs that hadn’t been played live in over 40 years. Sharing the stage with them was the formidable Armored Saint, making it an unforgettable night for the city’s metal enthusiasts.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Armored Saint kicked off the night with a high-energy performance that set the tone for an incredible evening. Their impressive guitar solos and strong rapport with the crowd had everyone on their feet. Vocalist John Bush was a standout, captivating the audience with his dynamic energy and piercing vocal screams. At one point, he left the stage only to reappear on the balcony, still belting out songs while surrounded by fans—a moment that had the crowd roaring with excitement. For many, this was their first experience seeing this classic heavy metal band, and they delivered a performance to remember.
The anticipation for W.A.S.P was palpable as they took the stage, marking their first return to Montreal since 1992. Performing their entire debut album was a monumental moment for fans, especially since many of the songs hadn’t been played live in decades. From the moment they appeared, their presence was commanding. Frontman Blackie Lawless stood behind a custom mic stand crafted to look like a skull and vertebrae, embodying the theatrical flair that has defined W.A.S.P’s legacy.
The band’s performance was a true homage to their 80s metal roots. Each song transported the audience back in time, blending nostalgia with raw, live energy. Highlights included fan favorites that resonated deeply with the crowd, who sang along with unwavering enthusiasm. In a surprising moment, the band requested that the audience refrain from crowd surfing—a testament to the sheer excitement and pent-up energy surrounding such a rare and legendary performance.
The nearly sold-out Mtelus venue was packed with Montreal’s dedicated metalheads, who reveled in every moment of this historic show. W.A.S.P delivered a performance that was not only musically outstanding but also a heartfelt reunion with their fans.
The night was a celebration of heavy metal’s enduring legacy, with Armored Saint and W.A.S.P reminding Montreal why these bands remain legends in the genre.
